I confess it. I have been very remiss in paying forward the honours recently paid to me in the form of awards. I could tell you all the reasons why, between work and home, writing and reading, poems, novels, friends, illnesses, holidays, housework, spoiled cats and Ghost Adventures, but the reasons truly don’t come close to being compelling. I have struggled for some while with awards, though I truly appreciate receiving them (who doesn’t, really) and I enjoy sharing the love with my friends, new and old; yet, we all know how they tend to gobble up your evening (the award posts, not the friends!) so I have come to a difficult, if inevitable, conclusion.

This shall be my last awards post. 😦

I think most of us come to this point, in some degree, but rather than simply accept and do nothing; and rather than simply ignore what is, in all honesty, a delightful honor, I should be polite and say that, going forward, Booknvolume shall be Award Free. It isn’t just me being pat when I say that Your Friendship and return readership, kind comments and Inspirational insights, not to mention the occasional reblog/retweet, are award enough for me.

But before I close the door, I should like to mention a few honours recently paid, if only to highlight the giver of the award and pay them the honour of sharing their blogs with you.

First and foremost, my Dear Dear Friend Amy (or Amsgirl, as I affectionately call her ) shared with me the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award. Amy’s blog is a daily delight of breathtaking photography and Inspirational/motivational thoughts that I cannot miss. Callum at: http://callummclaughlin.wordpress.com also shared this wonderful award with me, and I can tell you, his own blog is every bit as inspiring and wonderful. Anything and everything from poetry, writing, reading and publishing can be found on his blog, delivered with a fresh and youthful glimmer.

D A Lavoie at: http://dalavoie.net shared a beautiful award as well, The Angel Award. Such a wonderful blessing to receive, I am touched with the gentle grace of this award and the smiles of utter surprise, because, to be entirely honest, I do not know D A well enough to even tell you her first name. So to receive such a beautiful award from her is, quite honestly, astonishing. Yet I do appreciate it, and hope that this will illustrate her lovely and kind nature, which she shares on her blog.

My Lovely Friend Patty over at: http://petitemagique.wordpress.com honoured me with the Community Heart Award. Patty’s blog, as I am sure you are all very well aware, is filled with the very essence of being mindful of the community of blogging and being Full of Heart. Touching, romantic, lyrical, yet deliciously dark poetry graces her magical realm in the blogosphere and you really are cheating yourself, plain and simple, if you don’t stop by.

And Finally, Lena from http://lenanoid.wordpress.com/about has shared the Very Inspiring Blogger award only the other day. Lena and I are still getting to know each other, but I can tell already that she is a beautiful spirit, sharing love and hope in a beautiful fashion on her blog. Do, do, stop over and say hello to her .

Now, the customary thing to do is to share all these awards with people, but I would be here for seven more hours doing so, thus, I shall leave off by saying that I am delightfully thankful for all the love shared to me and hope, with my whole heart, that you will stop by the blogs of these friends, new and old, to enjoy their inspirations. Without them and, indeed, without You, where would BnV Be, yet sadly, from this point on, BnV will be Award Free.

I am Ever Amazed by Awards. Most times, I barely am thinking about receiving one when someone Kindly offers the most generous compliment (or at least one of the most generous) I can think of: An Award for Doing what I Love to Do. Makes me feel I rather ought to be standing in front of all my peers (oh wait, I am, really!) saying “You Love Me, You Really Love Me!”

All kidding aside, Marijke of: http://ceadomile.com has paid me the honour of nominating me for an award I’ve never heard of: The Butterfly Light Award, (which was created by Belinda at: http://idiotwriting.wordpress.com) and I am thoroughly grateful. If you’ve not met Marijke yet or visited her blog, your are cheating yourself of one truly Beautiful blog. Here’s an example or two of just what I’m talking about so you can see for yourself.

Yes, she is a Being of Light, spreading the Joy within her to all those she encounters. Do pay her wonderful Blog a visit. You won’t regret it 😉

So, to the MOST IMPORTANT task of paying the Honour forward. I could name so many, but that would create a very long post indeed, so I shall instead simply pick one. Now, I must write a short paragraph titled either “How I’m Spreading Light” OR “How I’m A Positive Influence”. Sounds simple enough, but when one pauses to consider how you are touching others lives, it sometimes feels rather conceited (at least to me). Nevertheless, as I am required, I shall say that I endeavor to fill my poetry and posts, the images I use, the music I Share and the comments I make with Positivity. That is to say, though I am well aware that there is a world full of ugliness, hate and cruelty out there, I try to make Booknvolume a place where people may come to find Light, Joy, Beauty, Hope, Peace, and Love. I Share myself, honestly and as openly as I am able, and let people take from my blog what they will, Trusting the Path upon which I walk and the Source from which All Inspiration Flows.

After all, There are more Wonders in Heaven and Earth than are Dreamt of in Our Philosophy.
(You didn’t really think I’d write an entire Non-poetry post and not reference Hamlet/Shakespeare, did you?)

Ah, Award Posts. Long winded, fairly run-o-the-mill, and, unless you are personally nominated, somewhat uninteresting (come on now, confess it, it’s true!) OH don’t get me wrong, it’s wonderful to share the wealth of love and friendship, and its marvelous being able to showcase a few, possibly, little-known blogs that others might enjoy as much as you do, but in all honesty these posts are A LOT of work and I see more and more people politely bowing out of them altogether.

But it IS wonderful to Share the Wealth of Love and Friendship! SO, after thinking about this paradox for a LONG time, I have come up with my own solution. You may agree with my resolution or you may scoff and shake your head, but I am offering it up as a possible alternative should you find yourself facing the same conundrum. (honestly, I don’t even know if I’m “allowed” to do this, but I’m doing it anyway…that’s the way I roll)

I hereby Create: The Crème de la Crème Award.

Simple and to the point, this Honour is awarded to ONE person. No more long lists, no more hours and hours for one post. Received by One, Given to One for being the Crème de la Crème, the Cream of the Crop, the Pick of the Litter, the Best of the Best. Rules? Sure you can have a few rules:

• Select your Honouree and notify them. You Must Pay the Honour forward, (rather than just giving it back to the person who gave it to you.)
• Showcase their blog in the Best manner you choose.
• Include the Banner/Badge in your Post.
• Share your post with the world.

Of Dragons and Loyalty. Of Friends and Kindred Spirits

Dragons and Loyalty: What could be better? Ok, other than chocolate or a nice steaming cup of (you know where I’m going right?) Gingerbread Mocha Chai Latte, but in Fantasy as well as Reality, Dragons and Loyalty conjure fantastic images and invoke musings of far away lands and distant times. Yes, those things appeal to me on many levels; yet Dragons also speak of Strength and Valor (at least in my imagination), of Calamity and Transition, and Intensity of Purpose (though what a Dragon’s true purpose is, none can say, can they?) Loyalty is Loyalty and needs neither preface nor soliloquy to sing its praises: we all desire and appreciate its merits.

In all honesty, this award has come rather as a surprise from Dreamland, and I do confess to being somewhat unfamiliar with his blog or his works, yet I hold it as an even higher honour that he should think of me and gift to me such an award. 1. I once put “The Promise” by When in Rome on repeat and listened to it for an entire day at work.
2. I cry at some point during every movie I’ve ever watched. Even “Star Trek Into Darkness”! (Can you guess where?)
3. I am not much of a wine drinker. It is either not sweet enough or, by the bottom of one glass everything is Luvvly-Jubbly!
4. I can and have listened to “Chevaliers de Sangreal” by Hans Zimmer for hours. It is one of the most Beautiful, Stirring, Inspiring pieces of music I have ever heard.
5. I love Period Piece Dramas, like Downton Abby, Lark Rise to Candleford, Bleak House, To the Ends of the Earth, and, of course, Pride and Prejudice (with Colin Firth!)
6. I do confess it, I love Chocolate AND Peanut Butter, Alone or Together, it matters little 
7. I Love.

Inner Peace

A Strength. A Blessing. A Gift. A Treasure. A Delight. A Dream. A Fortress. A Choice.

And, a WordPress blogging Award, apparently,

One which Amreen B. Shaikh at: http://painttheworldwithwords.wordpress.com has recently and most generously, awarded to me. I am so very pleased to be entrusted with such an honour by someone whose own blog is filled with transcending beauty, thought-provoking inspiration, and joyful humour. If you have not taken a moment to visit her blog before now, I should be remiss if I didn’t encourage you to go, right now, while I wait…. You won’t be disappointed.

2. I love to sit quietly in the shade at the end of a sultry summer’s day and just listen to the world around me.
3. I really do Love Winter, too, even after shoveling every day for a week straight!
4. One of my Favourite TV Shows is Big Bang Theory.
5. I don’t often choose to do something “mindless” or “automatic” just for a break.
6. I own a smartphone, but rarely use it.
7. (This is not as simple as it seems!) um… I make a delicious Shepherd’s Pie. LOL Ok I’m grasping at straws, but it’s something about me you didn’t know before.

I am also Blessed to be surrounded by bloggers who share Inspiring, Beautiful and Uplifting artistry each and every day. They fill my world with Light, which in turns burns bright in me and through me, back out into the blogosphere to, perchance, Inspire and Uplift others. Just like Inner Peace, it reaches inward and outward, to Bless and to be a Blessing, if you allow it to do so.

Patty at: petitemagique.wordpress.com has once again very kindly honoured me with an award, which does not surprise me as she is the most wonderful friend and inspiring blogger. A new award to me, if also, perhaps to wordpress, The Field of Flowers Award was created by Patty (I do believe) because there are some people who she would give a field full of flowers if she could. That is simply her sweet, kind nature. Not just a couple of flowers… No, no , no; an entire field full of them, because they can use it to thank someone or because they simply deserve it. Flowers give color, flowers say ‘I Care’ and flowers are nature’s gift to us.

The Rules are quite simple.

Easy Peasy. This Christmas has brought its share of Abundance, in material as well as familial and spiritual wealth, touching my heart with joyful memories, making me laugh and smile (which, admittedly, is nothing new), and providing me opportunities to GIVE what Blessed me in order to Be The Blessing. Today is no different, really. In looking back over the last month (or so) I have been reminded that several of my Wonderful WordPress Friends have Blessed me with the gift of an award (or four) that I, now, (having finally gotten a day that does not require 100 other tasks of me) should like to Gift Forward.

1. In my spare time (which is hard to find these days ) I also enjoy jewelry making and scrapbooking.
2. I have never once done drugs (though some may think otherwise some days!)
3. I like to try new things, at least once, and have tasted escargot, (which I didn’t much care for ) as well as Beluga Caviar (which I DID care for!)

5. I studied Astronomy in school and might well have gone on to be an astronomer, if it hadn’t required so much math! Yeck! (thus the reason many of my posts are filled with pictures of the cosmos and notions of space and time)

Fantasmagorical !

There’s a word. Quite possibly one of the best words ever devised. It’s a mixture of ‘fantastic’, ‘amazing’ and ‘magical’ all rolled up into one spritely little package. One of those declarations, like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, that eludes practical usage, but serves perfectly when ordinary words simply will not do. This, then, is the perfect expression to describe my sentiments when looking over the pleasing plethora of presents (or awards, to be more accurate, but I needed a P-word).

When I began this blog, as my first post will testify, I truly was not at all certain if ANYONE would even bother to read what it was that I thought I might have to say. At the time, I wasn’t even exactly sure what it was that I WANTED to say, and I never dreamed anyone would give me an award for saying it, yet to my amazement, they did and still are, which leads me back to this particularly pleasing proclamation : Fantasmagorical!

Now, before I begin, as I do realize these award posts can get a bit INSANE (even more so than I can) please humour me a moment while I attempt to explain the method to my madness here. I should like very much to follow all the award rules, but as it would result in a post, at the very least, several miles long, I shall ask that you permit me the privilege of sharing with you the Important part of awards, in my opinion, which is the other blogs you might like to discover. After, I should also like to share a few morsels about my friends who have been so kind as to honour me with this pleasing plethora and then, wrap up with a few fun facts and meaningless musings about me. 1. I once had to rescue a 5 foot long python snake from underneath a baseboard heater and cuddle it to calm it down while it’s new environment enclosure was being upgraded.
2. My Friends like to call me The Queen of Useless Information, because I know all sorts of ridiculous, otherwise useless, trivia, like the lead singer’s name from the 80’s band Kajagoogoo (which is Limhal) and how he ended up with such a unique name (his actual name is Chris Hamill, so he switched the letters around and Viola…Limahl)
3. I don’t tend to drink very frequently, however, my favourite alcoholic beverage is Bailey’s Irish Cream on the rocks. (mmmmm)
4. I whole heartedly believe I once saw an Angel. (a future post perhaps shall reveal more)
5. I am a hopeless romantic, as well as a sensualist and dreamer.

3) What has been a special moment in 2013? May 25th. For reasons that shall remain my own 😉 (sorry that’s not fun or fair, I know) But what occurred inspired me to finally create this blog, started me off on a physical fitness regime resulting in 30 lbs lost and still going strong, changed my entire relationship with The Almighty and has given my life a sense of Purpose and Accomplishment I have long been longing for :so whatever it was, (which shall remain nameless) was life changing to be sure!
4) What’s your favorite quote? Of Course, From Hamlet because I relate to this speech entirely!

9) What musical instrument have you tried to play? I play with the handbell choir at my church
10) Anything you had wished to have learned earlier? Life comes at its pace for a reason…I just do my best to learn from the present and walk toward the future.
11) Do you like to do Crafts, Drawing or Painting? Painting.

The holidays are coming! 29 days and a-counting, if you are counting, and here’s me with everything left to do and fewer and fewer days to do it in. Oh The Rush! Oh The Frenzy! Oh The frenetic madness of it all! I try every year to get done ahead of time, but never do; yet, I have come to the conclusion that I don’t because I rather enjoy the hustle and bustle of it all. Some people do get out of sorts this time of year; they let the stress and hurry-hurry of the season rob them of the joy of the season.

Rather like Blogger Awards (ok, I admit, it’s a fairly laboured segue, but do be so kind as to humour me… in the spirit of the season). I haven’t been around the blogosphere for very long, but I will confess to noticing that awards, like the holidays, seem to be either loved or loathed and for whatever reason, or any number of reasons. For my part, I love both the holidays and the awards as it gives me the opportunity to bestow a trifle of good will and friendship, to share a smile, and to, possibly, make someone’s day. (and my own day in the process)

Life is a funny thing, isn’t it? For years I’ve been procrastinating, ruminating, contemplating about starting a blog. What would I write? Would anyone care? Would the inspiration ever be there? Or would it fade as swiftly as it came? Would people get bored if it little varied, if it stayed the same? Fairly laboured maybe, but accurate. Still, nevertheless, and notwithstanding these misgivings, on June 6th, 2013, I embarked upon an intrepid journey that has reshaped my thinking, my musings, my writing, and, if truth be told, my entire life, because on that day I launched Booknvolume. BnV. The Book and Volume of This Distracted Globe. (that being the full title of this, otherwise, non-descript little blog)

In the months that have passed I have come to the irrepressible conclusion that it was the smartest thing I’ve done in a long time. And, although I’ve slept a lot less since that fateful day (as I ever seem to hit my literary stride after 10pm!) I’ve also written more than I ever have and I’ve met so many extraordinary people that I could not name them all. However, I certainly shall try!

One of the most extraordinary is Patty at http://petitemagique.wordpress.com/ She is ever supportive, ever thoughtful, and her magic poetry and beautiful blog is one I visit every day. In her generosity and friendship, Patty has nominated me for the most amazing award I could ever dream to receive. The 2013 Blog of the Year Award! To say that I am amazed and honoured, would surely be understating the matter. To say that I threw my hands up in the air and let out a high pitched squeal of joy would be getting closer to the truth. To say that I cannot describe my astonishment and gratitude in receiving a blog of the year award when my blog, in all truth, is less than 6 months old is right on the money.

Nevertheless, Patty has given this indescribable decoration to me (as well as to several other amazing bloggers, too!) and I shall do my utmost to live up to her high praise. This is an award I’ve never even seen before, but has really given me pause to think about what an amazing thought it truly is, outside of the privilege of being chosen by someone who’s artistry and poetic brilliance lights each day with magic and beauty. Patty’s blog is one I simply must read every day and, hopefully, never miss a post! Go ahead, pop on by, and discover the mystique for yourself !

Sisterhood is a blessing. Having a sister, I am able to speak from experience. Although there are good times and rough patches, laughs as well as tears, joys and sorrows alike, they are shared with an individual who has been beside you all your life. Someone who understands and accepts you for who you are (Hopefully!), someone who appreciates your strengths as well as your weaknesses, and someone who shares your memories; any and all of which, either on their own or together, are blessings not to be taken for granted. So to be nominated for an award that speaks of a Sisterhood transcending borders and languages, cultural boundaries and religious diversity, and joins me in that amazing bond with women all round the world is an overwhelming concept. (I may be over-thinking this, but it’s food well worth the thought, … I think?)

Well, that might be a touch effusive, but since it’s coming from me, I know you understand. Bit by Bit, Moment by Moment, Day by Day, you are getting to know me (I do realize it’s a frightening concept, but hang in there!) Because as the little hamster runs and runs round the squeaky wheel of my mind, every once in a while a tiny little gem is uncovered. Nothing Earth shattering or mountain moving, to be sure; just a kernel of thought that will either make you pause to say “Hmmmm??” or make you raise an incredulous brow and shake your head. Either which, the discovery continues and a network of like-minded, equally-gifted, and mutually supportive friends is being shaped and nurtured, like the shimmering gossamer threads of a web stretching across distances, borders and boundaries.
