My current WIP Angel of Mercy just passed 100K words today!ย  I’m really excited because none of my previous 3 books even came close to that many. No diss to Dark Fey, I love my trilogy, though I do often wish I could go back and add more to the story, but right now I’m focused entirely on Angel.ย  What is this new story about?ย  I’m so glad you asked….

Its a Post Apocalyptic Fantasy Romance. It tells the story of life after the first 3 Horsemen, Pestilence, War and Famine, have ridden. In the 4th Era after the Great Cataclysm, (roughly 400 years in the future) the final horseman, Death, is caged and waiting on the Archangel of Mercy to release him. Tzadkiel has been sent to earth in human form to find one human who still understands Mercy. He has been given 100 years, after which Death must be released. With only 4 years remaining, he finds her; a servant named Lourdes, but they must escape the harsh dictatorship of the Eminent Protectorate and find a place of sanctuary before the appointed hundred years are spent and Death is freed from the abyss.

.

Intrigued?ย  Me too!ย  So in honor of this momentous occasion I’m sharing a short teaser too!

.

Her moan drew him out of the dark well of agony he had become so accustomed to and he opened his eyes to look around uncertainly.ย  He thought he had heard speaking, but could not combat the heavy darkness pulling him downward; yet this soft sound drew him back. Surely it had not been a manifestation of his mind.ย  Had it?ย  Was this sound some indication that his mind was attempting to disengage from his tortured body?ย  Was it like the screams he had heard only moments ago, just a figment of his imagination? Had it been only moments ago or had he slipped into unconsciousness and they had actually been nothing but a dream?ย  Or perhaps days ago?

His thoughts were a tangle of pain and confusion that made him doubt himself, but then another soft noise beside the table captured his full attention.ย  Was it crying?ย  Was it an animal that had found its way into the chamber or had the young servant returned? His thoughts spun for a moment as he considered. Was this even the same day as when he had seen her?ย  He had no point of reference; his memory was a disjointed haze of anguish, torment, and severing isolation that fragmented his thought into pools of jagged darkness.ย  They spun slowly, reaching for him, drawing him inward and the quiet calm at its center was irresistible.

He closed his eyes again.

Silence deep and soothing.

Stillness.

โ€œYou do not need to suffer this.โ€ย  A deep, resonant voice filled the obscurity surrounding him. It encircled his essence like spiraling water, pulling him up from the pit into which he had fallen.ย  He was himself again, vibrant and strong, the spiritual embodiment of mercy in its purest form. Turning slowly, he searched the blackness for the one who spoke.

โ€œI know.โ€ย  His voice echoed as well.

โ€œThey only hurt you because you allow it.โ€ย  Again, the deep voice echoed into the gloom.ย  He nodded distractedly, the sensation of the absence of pain euphoric.

โ€œI know.โ€ย  The diffuse light surrounding him shifted from golden-white to murky red.

โ€œI wait.โ€ He suddenly understood. It was the one behind him, waiting to be released, waiting for him to be satisfied that there were no longer any living souls of mercy left among the lost throng of humanity, but he wasnโ€™t convinced this was true.ย  Not yet. ย He repeated himself more assertively.

โ€œI know.โ€

โ€œTime grows short.โ€ ย He understood this as well.ย  He had been given 100 years.ย  If a single soul could not be found in so vast a stretch of time, then it would be accepted that none remained and the final Horseman, Death, would be released. He had waited all this time, but was obviously growing impatient.ย  Squaring his shoulders, Tzadkiel pierced the darkness with his deep violet gaze and spoke formidably.

โ€œ100 years has been appointed and I shall not be rushed.โ€ย  Slowly the murky-red haze diminished back into darkness as a low growl acknowledged the final Horsemanโ€™s acceptance that he would continue to wait.

Angel of Mercy #Preview of a #FantasyCharacter

.

As a result of the recent poll I took on WP, as well as Facebook, I was finally able to dress my main character from Angel of Mercy.

.

The uniform Lรฉvesque had given him was that of a regimental officer made of black leather that did not immediately impress, particularly when folded up lying upon a blood-stained table. ย The black leather pants were snug, trimmed with gold embroidery and dressed by a triplet of golden buttons embossed with the Eminent Protectorateโ€™s seal on either side of this trim just below the hip.ย  The snug-fitting coat was also embroidered with golden trim, set off smartly by a double row of similar golden buttons that ran along the outside length of the coat and collar. Individual straps of black leather closed the coat by crossing the front of it from one button to the other, while epaulettes, which also bore the EP seal and looping golden fringes, were set off by two golden cords ornamentally draping the neckline.

Black leather boots with lacings and a wide leather belt completed the ensemble and after putting everything on, he walked with a purposeful stride to the small dais upon which Jshunamir was displayed.ย  Taking up his own baldric of soft gray leather, the only thing that remained from what he had been wearing on the day he encountered Lรฉvesque, he cinched it loosely round his hips and picked up his sword.ย  Unstained and untarnished, though it had not been cleaned, it glittered as beautifully as it did on the day it was forged; itโ€™s inlaid runes glimmering with a silvery light all their own. Sheathing it, he turned back toward the table, noticing Lourdes at last who stood watching him with an unguarded stare.

Smiling subtly, he met her gaze, the deep lavender of his eyes searching hers, but she closed her and looked down at the bundle she carried, clearly unable to express herself.ย  Crossing the floor with an unhurried stride, he looked down at himself and then back to her with an openly curious expression.

โ€œDoes it suit me? I think itโ€™s a bit,โ€ he paused, seeking the correct word, but she finished his sentence for him, her tone openly approving.

โ€œMagnificent.โ€

.

Tzadkiel is the Archangel of Mercy, sent to earth in the 4th era after the first of the Four Horsemen have ridden. He is looking for one human among those who remain who still understands Mercy.ย  He’s been looking for nearly 100 years, but he’s finally found her…a young servant named Lourdes.

Just a taste of the work in progress….

.

I’m looking for a bit of fun input. My main character in Angel of Mercy needs to wear a military uniform during a portion of the story. It’s 400 years in the future and I’m going for a goth military look.ย  Oh, and just for clarity, in the story his wings are not visible.

I’ve narrowed it down to these. Which one do you like best?

Thanks !

5.0 out of 5 starsInteresting take on fantasy!!

The Reviled (Dark Fey Book One) had everything I like in a fantasy novel. Good characters, surprising twists, a little romance, and action. Ayla was a personable character, but Gairynzyl stole the show. A Dark Fey trying to return to the light, his contact with Ayla sets the stage for the story. Aylaโ€™s struggle to decide between two worlds and two loves made it a great tale. Overall, an excellent read!

Angel of Mercy – A #Post-Apocalyptic #Fantasy #Fiction #Book #Teaser

.

My current work in progress is practically telling itself.ย  Though I started it about a year ago, and then had nearly a year long hiatus from writing of any kind while I moved, found a decent job, and got sorted, the story has recently re-captured my attention.ย  So much so, in fact, that I almost feel like I’m taking dictation.ย  Already 22K words and only at Chapter 5, Angel of Mercy is more than filling my thoughts, it’s renewed a true passion within me I feared I lost. Words flow again in beautiful abundance and I am overjoyed!

Overjoyed….and eager to share some of the growing tale! It tells the story of life after the first 3 Horsemen, Pestilence, War and Famine, have ridden.ย  In the 4 Era after the Great Cataclysm,(roughly 400 years in the future)ย  the final horseman, Death is accompanied by the Archangel of Mercy, who is sent to find at least one person among those who remain who is merciful.ย  He has been searching for almost 100 years….

.

Patience was his essence, clemency his soul.ย  He had never known resentfulness, rage, or pain.ย  All the years of his long life, which numbered in countless eons, he had been the personification of compassion, empathy, and forgiveness; yet now as the dark hours of agony and harrowing loneliness he endured drug on, his thoughts twisted in a tumultuous commotion of wrath and determination. Those who abused him deserved the wrath that pierced his benevolent essence with its ferocity, and the one he had been sent to find merited the determination that implored him to wait, despite the intensifying desire to pour out the ferocity of his wrath on those who abused him.ย  The horrifying cycle of tempestuous emotion became a maelstrom that threatened to undo him, separate him from everything he knew about himself, and create in the void a monster of abhorrent violence.

His brothers, those who had preceded him, wrought justice for all who had been victimized during the ages that had passed since the beginning.ย  All of beautiful creation was not subject to the trials they unleashed.ย  During the cataclysms, the earthโ€™s population diminished on a vast scale, but the plant and animal-life of the planet recovered from the subjugation it had suffered under the ungainly rule of the humans. Those who felt the full extent of the justice his brothers released had sown the seeds of their destruction through their own despicable actions.ย  Whether through the sickness they poured from their souls like plague, through the violence they perpetrated on the meek, or through the deprivation of their cruel disregard, Pestilence, War, and Famine were sent to match their own.

He had been sent to find one that matched himself; one kindred spirit among the multitudes that was the embodiment of mercy. Although he had searched unsuccessfully for nearly a century, he could not accept there was no one. None, but him?ย  It was incomprehensible.ย  So he continued to search, to wait, and through waiting, he accepted the abuse forced upon him by the children of the lost.

.

I would love to hear what you think…and if this entices you to want more ๐Ÿ™‚

Emily Renzi thinks sheโ€™s going crazy. After her parents move to a quiet village, she senses that something is off about the house theyโ€™re living in. Dreams of strange creatures invade her sleep, and mysterious shapes appear in the garden. Confiding in her older brother, Ru, they research the houseโ€™s background and find that a scientist disappeared there during World War II. Afterwards, sightings of strange creatures were whispered around the village. Could the creatures in Emilyโ€™s dreams and the ones rumored about be the same? And if so, what do they want from her? As she struggles to piece together the truth from the fiction, she finds out that beasts arenโ€™t always monsters โ€“ humans, however, are a different matter.

Kathryn Rossati is an autistic author and poet who loves weaving tales of fantasy, sometimes with sci-fi or paranormal twists. Her stories tend to have themes of social acceptance and equality, without being preachy. ย  Kathryn has four middle grade books published under the name Kathryn Wells with Creativia, along with a debut poetry collection, and her latest book, The Origin Stone, which was recently published in March from Nuff Said Publishing.

Kathryn, what do you love most about Writing? Living a life/lives so very different to my own. It’s like being an actor, except without the CGI to be added after your scene’s been filmed. Every story has a new cast that I have to get to know, and the world can be close to my own or the complete opposite. Nothing is impossible, and exploring that is invigorating. True, there are times when trying to get the words down on paper is like pulling teeth, but the end result is worth it. I also find it incredibly therapeutic, as it eases my depression and provides me with a sense of achievement and self-worth.

Can you sum up your life story in ten words or less? Dungaree-loving Mother of Parrots obsessed with the fantastical.

Do you have a Mantra- a Quote you try to live by? Yep, as a woman on the autistic spectrum, I can have very strong interests. However, as being an author has always been my dream, my mantra is, ‘Just Write’. It refocuses me on what I truly find important so I can keep going (it’s also tattooed on my leg just in case I forget). Anyone can write, but being an author takes true commitment and passion.

.

I love that!ย  Thank you so much Kathryn for taking a few moments of your time to share your story…and your story, with BnV ๐Ÿ™‚

God’s Hammer- A #HistoricalFiction #MustRead & the #Author who created it.

.

Eric Schumacher is an American historical novelist who currently resides in Santa Barbara, California, with his wife and two children. He was born and raised in Los Angeles and attended college at the University of San Diego.

At a very early age, Schumacher discovered his love for writing and medieval European history, as well as authors like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Those discoveries continue to fuel his imagination and influence the stories he tells. His first novel, God’s Hammer, was published in 2005. He has since published two additional novels, Ravenโ€™s Feast and War King. All three tell the story of Hakon Haraldsson, the first Christian king of Viking Norway.

.

His historical fiction novel God’s Hammer is a true must read!

History and legend combine in the gripping tale of Hakon Haraldsson, a Christian boy who once fought for the High Seat of a Viking realm.

It is 935 A.D. and the North is in turmoil. King Harald Fairhair has died, leaving the High Seat of the realm to his murderous son, Erik Bloodaxe. To solidify his claim, Erik ruthlessly disposes of all claimants to his throne, save one: his youngest brother Hakon.

Erik’s surviving enemies send a ship to Wessex, where the Christian King Athelstan is raising Hakon. Unable to avoid his fate, he returns to the Viking North to face his brother and claim his birthright, only to discover that victory will demand sacrifices beyond his wildest nightmares.

.

Eric, What do you love most about Writing?

What I love most about writing is disappearing into my imagination. I will start writing and hours can pass in what feels like minutes. Nothing else I do has that same affect on me.

Do your characters dictate what or how your write in any way?

Absolutely. My characters often throw a monkey wrench into my writing. Iโ€™ll be in the midst of writing dialogue or an action scene and suddenly my characters will do something unexpected. I pursue that new angle or direction because it usually feels appropriate for that character. The challenge, though, is that it can take the story in a new direction that may veer too far from historical facts, so Iโ€™ve learned to be cautious. Still, it is always a nice surprise when my characters come alive like that.

Whatโ€™s exciting you about your next project?

A few things have really got me jazzed. While Iโ€™m sticking with Viking historical fiction, I am venturing into a new story with all new historical and fictitious characters. Developing those characters has been a ton of fun. I am also experimenting with a different POV, which is daunting and exciting all at once. Itโ€™ll be a few more months, but I canโ€™t wait to share the project with the world!

#WorkInProgress – Angel of Mercy – A #PostApocalyptic #Psychological #Romantic #Fantasy #Mystery?

.

Two brief excerpts from my current – well, one of two current – Works In Progress. Not entirely sure how to categorize it yet, maybe you can tell me…Its set in the future, AFTER the beginning of the Biblical Apocalypse. It’s about mortals and Immortals, Hate and Love, Fear and Romance. Yes it will have STEAM, Violence, Spirituality and a hint of Dsytopian flair. It tells the story of life after the first 3 Horsemen, Pestilence, War and Famine, have ridden.ย  In the 4 Era after the Great Cataclysm, the final horseman, Death is accompanied by the Archangel of Mercy, who is sent to find at least one person among those who remain who is merciful.ย  He has been searching for almost 100 years….

.

Year 96 of the 4th Era after the Great Cataclysm: Le Bastion de la Rรฉsolution, – Marรงais, Olde France

She was only a scullery maid. Nothing. No one. She was as unimportant as the scraps she cleaned up and just as forgettable. She had been her entire life and nothing would ever change that. She knew it and she expected nothing. Ever since she was five years old she understood that those around her were far better than she. Her life was trivial and meaningless; she accepted it.

Those she served were as far above her as she was above the barn rats. Her betters were interesting, beautiful, wealthy, and above all, powerful. When they spoke, others rushed to serve; where they wished to go, others made way. They were inaccessible and inescapable. Officers of the Eminent Protectorate and their families, they outranked even the nobles of the land and none questioned them. The Eminent Protectorate were the elite of society and to serve them was a privilege most could only dream of in a world where poverty was common-place, where being healthy was a rare distinction among the masses of Mortal Plague, and where Time had stopped……..

Every night she could hear the screams. Harrowing, they kept her awake many long nights while she leaned from her small window in the servantโ€™s tower desperately trying to locate their source, but the stone walls of the bastion sent echoes pealing in all directions. They broke her heart, at first, but after many weeks of hearing them sheโ€™d grown accustomed to the noise. It wasnโ€™t so much that they didnโ€™t affect her anymore, but she accepted them, just as she accepted her own plight. The Eminent Protectorate could not and would not be questioned about them, or about anything they did, so whoever the poor soul was, they were doomed to bear whatever was happening without any more hope of rescue than she might wish for. Less. ……

Year 86 of the 4th Era after the Great Cataclysm: The Coast of Calais, Olde France

He stood on the vast ocean shore, his back to what was left of a once vibrant land as his brilliant, violet gaze searched the empty miles of gray ocean. His essence listened for any sign of life, a heartbeat remaining among the silence of the deeps, but not a single pulse broke the deathly hush. Pestilence had done his job too well. Nothing remained. All that was once beautiful, colorful and diverse was gone.

The thought pained him and he closed his eyes, bowing his head to mourn what had been sacrificed and all that had been lost. No terns cried upon the ocean breeze; no laughing gulls sang praise to the skies, there was only the sound of the waves rushing and breaking upon the rocky shore and the hollow moan of the wind. Without wings to dance upon it, the air itself seemed barren and grief-stricken. Without the song of the lark to cheer the entrance of the day or the carol of the robin to serenade the evening, the entire earth grieved in heavy silence. The ruddy glimmer of the late day sun, slowly fading into a crimson haze, played through the lengths of his blonde hair and sparkled across the perfection of his features. Standing there at the beginning of such a vast emptiness, he was the most beautiful sight for countless miles.

Behind him, a thunder of hooves pounded across the beach and the curses of men accosted the quietness.ย  He did not turn to face them as they formed a perimeter around him, barricading him against the sea, nor did he immediately answer when they demanded to know who he was; instead, he closed his violet eyes and sighed wearily.ย  Nothing had changed, even after three horrifying cataclysms had shaken the foundations of the world; hate, suspicion and fear still ruled those who remained.

.

.

I welcome your thoughts and feedback ๐Ÿ˜‰

.

A Friend and fellow Author recently invited me to do a character interview with one of my characters from Dark Fey and after much consideration, I decided it should be Veryth. Although he is a supporting character in the trilogy, his contributions are vital to the story and, indeed, the Fey with whom he interacts. His influence is gentle, yet powerful and, although he would never step forward of his own volition, being entirely good-natured and humble of spirit, I couldn’t resist giving him some much deserved attention. I hope you may enjoy discovering more about him and do please feel free to share what you think and if you have any additional questions about/for him.

Hello Veryth, Thank You for taking time out of your busy schedule at the Temple to speak with us and tell us about yourself. I am honoured.

What are you passionate about? – I am a Healer whose focus is Counseling. I follow a creed of Guide Gently, Lead Quietly, Extol Empoweringly, which allows me to help others help themselves. This is the deepest aspiration of my spirit and fulfills my purpose.

In most times, what would someone find you doing? I reside at the Temple so I may be close to the Healing Wards at all times. If any fey is in need, I am available to give assistance, offer support, suggest guidance or simply to listen. This is what I love doing and you rarely find me amidst any other activity, although I do enjoy reading and quiet walks, as they allow me to refocus my energy and settle my mind.

Please tell us, who are you really. What do you look like, where/when are you from, what would you say is your biggest strength, biggest weakness? I am a Fey of the Light who is old enough to have been unified to my beloved, who bore us a beautiful daughter; young enough to still connect with the youth of the village and vibrant enough to play an active role in our community. I am of an average height for a malefey at 5โ€™10โ€ with a healthful physique, dark blond hair, deep green eyes (from which my name was inspired), and typical, broad, white-feathered wings. My beloved insisted I am handsome as well as kind of spirit and wise beyond my years, but my humility normally does not permit me to boast such things. I was born and raised in the village Hwyndarin, where I am happy to make my home among the Fey I care about so deeply.

My strongest skill is an ability to remain calm even in the most intense situations, which I am able to share with others through my gift of Empathic Transference, which is the ability to share my emotions with others. This same gift, however, also presents the most challenges. It has taken most of my life to hone this gift and learn how to govern it, because, as you might imagine, such a skill could unintentionally overwhelm another or be utilized with cruel or unkind intent.

What is the most important thing to you? Helping others. It is what my essence drives me to do and what gives me a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

What irks you the most? I have a reasonably even temperament; not much irks or irritates me, however, I would be untruthful if I said the heartless cruelty of the Reviled and their unthinkable need to inflict harm does not, at times, make me wish I had more of a warrior nature.

What delights you the most? Seeing positive change, whether in the life of an individual whom I or another Healer may have aided or through the actions of a group, such as the Liberators, led by the Fierce One, Gairynzvl.

What is one thing that you want us to know about you? Though I do not often speak of such a heart-rending loss, the reason I chose to dedicate my life to helping others was inspired, in no small part, by the help I received (from Healers and Counselors) after the Reviled stole both my beloved and our only child from me. It took much time to recover from such an unspeakable injury, not only to my heart but also my spirit, but I learned much through the loss and grief, and the challenges I faced to try to set my life to some useful purpose. I cannot help, now, believing that the darkness, which steals into all of our lives at some point or another, is there to challenge us to become more than we are at that moment. It is an opportunity to make a change, a positive change, that can and often will not only effect our own life, but the lives of those around us. At least, in my case, this is true.

Where can we find you? I am usually to be found in the precincts of the Temple and play an active, although gentle, role in the entire Dark Fey Trilogy.

Thank You, Veryth, for sharing your Inspiring story with us. I hope these few insights will help others understand your vital Purpose better. You honour me generously. It is I who Thanks You.

Fellow Fantasy author and blogger Assaph Mehr has a website solely dedicated to character interviews! Very Cool, right?! The Protagonist Speaks is dedicated to the characters living inside the books we love. Each week they aim to publish an interview with a protagonist from a novel they believe in. Yep, you read that right. The protagonist โ€“ or antagonist! โ€“ from the book. Not the author. Not the reviewer. The character. They aim to put the characters in the limelight โ€“ to be heard, to be felt. …Which is a notion I believe in as well, since I also do Character Spotlights.

So when Assaph said he’d enjoy talking with Gairynzvl, the lead of my Epic YA Fantasy Dark Fey Trilogy, I couldn’t refuse. Gairynzvl could, of course. One never knows when it comes to unpredictable malefey, but fortunately he was in a talkative mood. Below you will find the conversation, and the link to the full interview on Assaph’s site.

.

Tell us a little about where you grew up. What was it like there?

My life has been dichotic. I spent my first seven years in the village Hwyndarin with my family and the Fey of the Light. It is a place of simple beauty and communal living, where each villager shares lifeโ€™s responsibilities and burdens. I was very young, but remember playing with friends and learning to fly amid the forests, streams and meadows bathed in sunlight.

When I reached 7 ยฝ, I was abducted by the Reviled Fey and spent the next 15 years of my life trying to survive the gloom and shadows of their dark realm, the Uunglarda. No sunlight warms their barren dominion and the skies are choked with soot and poisonous fumes. I suffered the Integration; five years of neglect designed to turn childfey into monsters and each day was a torment of hunger, thirst, cold, and abuse.

Gosh, that sounds horrible. How did you manage to hold onto hope? Was is a cherished memory, a favourite toy you clung to, a friend?

We had no toys in the Uunglarda, and very few friends, but I was determined not to forget the ones I had and to see them again. I kept the Light alive any way I could, mostly by repeated prophecies I had already learned and secretly studying others. Although I had to keep it completely hidden, which was not easy in a place where you are forced to do horrible things every day, as time went on, I formed a few secret alliances with Dark Ones who wanted to escape as much as I did and our mutual dream of freedom kept hope alive.

What do you do now?

Even though I have returned to the Light and live in Hwyndarin once again, I spend much of my time training with an exclusive unit of Fey Guards dedicated to the covert operation of returning into the Uunglarda at undisclosed times to rescue younglings and those Dark Fey who wish to escape.

Thatโ€™s very heroic, but also dangerous, isnโ€™t it? Have you always been driven to risk so much for others?

It is unquestionably dangerous, but also a self-rewarding sacrifice and one I am very willing to make, especially when I can see childfey restored to their families or those who will love and care for them. I would never call myself heroic, though I might agree with driven. Some of my friends describe me as tenacious and the Reviled thought me infuriatingly stubborn, (well, some of my friends say that too!) I simply choose to believe that positive action creates positive results and this conviction has proven true. Consequently, I am motivated to do more because it is so satisfying.

When you first decided to take such risks to help yourself and others, did you think you would succeed?

Honestly, no, but it was all I had; it was the only thing that kept me from being consumed by darkness. When I doubted, I forced myself to read and re-read the ancient texts, searching for anything that might help. When I met others who were doing what I was, it became easier to believe we would achieve our goal, but it was only when I first saw Ayla, the Fey of the Light Child Guardian who helped me when no one else would, that I knew with certainty I would stand in the Light once more.

Reaching out to her was extremely risky, wasnโ€™t it? What was the most frightening thing about risking so much?

I risked everything and, believe me, it was terrifying. I lived in fear for months. If the Reviled had found out or caught me, I would have faced unbearable torture as a traitor. If Ayla had chosen not to listen to me and help, my only chance of escape would have failed, and if she had told others about the dark one who was following her for months trying to communicate with her from the shadows, I could have been captured and thrown into the Prison of Daylight; executed by the same Light I sought to return to.

Fey of the Light are taught from a very young age to fear the Reviled. As one of them, what was the hardest thing you had to do to convince her she could trust you?

The night I chose to confront her was stormy and the darkness aided my crossing, but I knew coming face to face with a Dark Fey, alone, would frighten her immeasurably. So, I had taught myself a spell that would protect her from the Legion I was forced to traveled with by casting a brilliant light, which would block them from crossing over to harm her and give me time to convince her I was no threat. It was difficult not only because I had no desire to scare her, but the light I used to protect her, at the time, was lethal to me. If she had not chosen to act and help me, it would have killed me.

Risking so much was certainly difficult; so, what was the best part of that night?

Ayla used her very special gifts to help me escape the torrent of light I had created. She covered me with her body; extended her strength to bolster my own and physically dragged me into the darkness of the parlor before it was too late. I remember standing there in the shadows trying to catch my breath as the sensation of burning I had been suffering subsided. She lay on the floor at my feet, utterly exhausted and overwhelmed; yet she did not try to run from me. In fact, she reached up to touch my hand, as if making sure I was all right. It was an extremely intense moment. For 15 years, no one had done anything for me; yet, although she was frightened, overcome, and wracked by physical and emotional pain that was not her own (because she had connected with mine), she did not retreat from me, but chose to draw closer.

That was and still is the most indescribable feeling I have ever experienced.

Are you still close to Ayla?

Yes, I am.

What does the future hold for the two of you?

She is my Beloved One, but this is all I will say.

Some things are too personal to talk about?

Something like that.

(smiling) I understand, but before we end our conversation, can you share a secret with us, which youโ€™ve never told anyone else?

Hmmm? Sure, I know something, a very old prophecy, that can change the world for all Feyโ€ฆโ€ฆ

.

I would like to thank Assaph for this marvelous opportunity. It was a pleasure learning more about Gairynzvl, even for me, who wrote him. Please be sure to visit The Protagonist Speaks to read more fantastic character interviews (or to set one up for your own character!)
