So here it is…the very first (Possibly ever!) Reverse Book Review where the reader reviews the book and then is interviewed by ME….and YOU! Yes, thats right, you can ask any questions you like about the book(s) and Chad will be happy to answer them.  So lets get right to it, shall we?

Chad R Slabach Jr
Misericorde (Mercy Series Book One)
5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!

Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2020…..Cynthia A Morgan wrote the Dark Fey trilogy and I loved that…this is a very different sort of book. For one, it’s slower paced and the work of a very talented author who has time (there are 3 more books to come in the series) to let the story unfold, to allow the reader to know and understand the characters, times, environments. She is patient and assured – 2 words I would hesitate to use to describe most anything culturally. We are raised on soundbites and fed headlines, but this book/series is, especially the more I think about it, so difficult to adequately distill into a short synopsis. It’s spiritual and human. It’s violent and tender. It’s desperate and deeply hopeful. I can’t wait to see where she takes us from here.

.

Who is your favorite/least favorite character and why?
My least favorite is easy: Sauvage. In a space that is forgetting any resemblance of gentleness or care, his absolute lack of humanity is repulsive.
My favorite has been Chevalier or Levesque for the same reason. As I raged at their apathy and unwillingness to DO SOMETHING, I knew why they didn’t (or couldn’t.) They did for the same reason we stand idly by while the least of us are utterly taken advantage of and great violence is inflicted. Morgan couldn’t have known the specific political/social landscape when she wrote it, but this story is perfect for us, now. I guess it’s perfect for any time, because we are too often Chevalier or Levesque and not enough Tzadkiel and Lourdes. (As it turns out, why I love them is that they DID finally DO SOMETHING and I am proud of them, and it gives me hope for us, for me.)

What surprised you about the story that you didn’t expect
In my reviews I talk about your patience. It’s shocking to me that this story is given such beautiful space to breathe and be exactly what it is. It feels much less like a contrived product driven by bells and whistles and more like a living breathing organism. Then when the bells and whistles do come, they are genuine and unforced and we discover that we actually care deeply for these characters. It’s like we’re watching lives unfold and not just an event.

What are you hoping to see happen as the story moves forward?
Of course, I hope they find their way home and that they can heal from the tremendous amount of pain they’ve suffered. I don’t know if I can hope for anything other than Death to ride, it sounds like that is written so it shall be done. I just hope they all find peace. I love a happy ending (whether there can be a complete one with Death is doubtful.)

Which scene has lingered with you the most? Why?
The 2nd rape/abuse scene at the campsite was horrible and not something I will soon leave behind. It was much more impactful than the 1st (though the act itself is so vile) because I had grown to love them. I read it through tears, with an upset stomach. The visceral reaction I had was surprising…actually, I was absolutely sure the abuse wouldn’t happen. Absolutely sure! And then it did, written so descriptively it was REAL, and I barely kept from throwing up in horror. I still can’t move on.

Does the story remind you of any other books/movies?
There’s nothing like this.

Did you disagree with any of the characters decisions and why?
I think the disagreement was in the complete breakdown in human kindness and civility, like “how can they do that???” But I know, I know. It’s a mirror of what we can become and an invitation to become something more of what we were created to be.

Did you get any message / positive inspiration from the story?
The invitation I mentioned previously, and the quote, “May we show our thankfulness through kindness and appreciate our blessings through generosity,” has become the subject in a series I am teaching in our faith community and has been quoted often in my life. We should all aim so high.

If you could ask the author anything about the book, what would it be?
How does it end???? And How COULD you DO THAT to HER???????????

.

Clandestine (Mercy Series Book Two
5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning!!!
Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2020

The 2nd in a 4 book series, Morgan is remarkably self-assured and I am continually awed by her patience. In today’s world of sound bites and quick cuts to the next splashy explosion, the depth of character development is jarring. The plot thickens, but as we get to know more and more about Tzadkiel and Lourdes (and Sauvage and Chevalier and the others), I found myself in a fascinating space: I care for them. Morgan is so in control of her boundless talent here, even as my heart broke over and over, I just cannot wait to see these people again.

Chad Slabach is a friend I’ve known for twenty+ years.  If you are a long time follower of my blog, he was the inspiration for The Burning Question series.  He is the leader of a non-denominational faith community based in south-central PA as well an as avid music fan and writer.  You can find Chad on his WordPress Blog The Bridge Faith Community.

I’d like to Thank Chad immensely, not only for his enthusiastic support, but for taking time out of his busy schedule to read and review The Mercy Series AND to provide his insights in this Reverse View 🙂

Debbie De Louise is a reference librarian at a public library. She’s the author of seven novels including the four books of her Cobble Cove cozy mystery series. Her latest release, Sea Scope, is a psychological mystery. She lives on Long Island with her husband, daughter, and three cats.  Today Debbie has stopped by with a character from her book Sea Scope to share a few insights into the book and the characters within.

.

Debbie: Hi, Julie. Welcome to Cynthia Morgan’s blog. Please tell the readers a little about yourself and your role in my book, Sea Scope.

Julie: My pleasure, Debbie. As you know, I’m not the main character of the book. That honor belongs to my niece Sarah Collins. However, I play a large role in the story. After all, most of the action takes place at my home, Sea Scope, that is also an inn. I’m a portrait artist as well as an innkeeper. That’s where Sarah gets her artistic talent from, although she illustrates children’s books instead of penning portraits.

Debbie: That’s very interesting, but isn’t it also true that you’ve had many lovers but have never married?

Julie: That’s correct. My longest relationship was with Bart Donovan. He fancied I was in love with him. I think he was on the verge of proposing when I broke it off.

Debbie: And why exactly was that? Did it have anything to do with Sheriff Donald Marshall?

Julie: You might say that. Of all the men I’ve known, Donald was the one who came closest to winning my heart. In fact, he still may, as we’ve been reunited. I met him during the investigation into the murder at my inn twenty years ago.

Debbie: How awful! Who was murdered and how?

Julie: I can’t talk too much about it because I know your readers don’t like spoilers, but the victim was a young college student, Michael Gamboski, who was staying at the inn that summer. Glen and Sarah found his body by the nearby lighthouse. His death was termed suicide, but, after my niece returned to Sea Scope, strange things started happening that made us consider his death was murder.

Debbie: Please tell us about these strange happenings.

Julie: We began receiving messages written in crayon from my dead nephew, Sarah’s brother, Glen Brewster. Glen died two years ago in a motorcycle accident in California where he was a practicing psychologist. When Glen lived at the inn as a child, he liked to play a game that involved crayon clues.

Debbie: Boy, this sounds like an interesting story if I must say so myself. What about the rest of the family and those who lived at Sea Scope when Michael died?

Julie: I wish I could say nice things about the others, but I didn’t get along with everyone. Glen’s father, Martin, killed himself a year after they moved away from Sea Scope. I never liked Sarah’s mother, Jennifer, much. She drank a lot when she was at Sea Scope and hasn’t stopped. The people I liked best were Wanda and Wendy Wilson. Wanda was like a daughter to me more than a maid. Her daughter Wendy, was friends with Sarah and Glen. The only problem with Wanda was that she was flirtatious. She had Wendy out of wedlock. Russ Donovan, Bart’s son, also spent time at the inn. I think Sarah was attracted to him, but she married someone else after her family moved to New York from South Carolina.

What disturbs me about Derek is that he refuses medical treatment to help Sarah conceive when she desperately wants a baby.

Debbie: What a cast of characters. Is there anyone else in the book we should know about?

Julie: There is one other character. Her name is Carolyn Grant. She’s a children’s book writer and Sarah’s friend. She accompanies her to Sea Scope because Derek is teaching summer classes and can’t join Sarah.

Debbie: Would you have an excerpt to the book that you would like to share?

Julie: Yes. Here’s one that features me and my cat, Al.

As Al circled her legs emitting short cries that signaled his hunger, Julie checked for mail. There was one letter inside the box. It wasn’t in an envelope and bore no stamp. Someone had dropped it off. She figured it was an advertisement, but when she unfolded the paper, she saw that it was a note written in childish handwriting. Each letter had been marked with a different crayon.

“Do you really think you should reopen the inn? How many more deaths do you want on your head?”

Your nephew, Glen

She gasped. Al sensed her dismay and stopped crying, his body alert to danger; the fur on his back starting to rise.

Glen was dead, buried in the family cemetery nearly two years ago.

Debbie: Thank you so much for the great interview, Julie.

A fascinating and compelling examination of the physical and spiritual body, Anatomy of the Spirit gives an in depth look at the relationship between the power of positive thought and manifestations of the physical body.I found the comparisons between religions both intriguing and inspiring, as it showed how similar most philosophies truly are and how, regardless of what we choose to entitle our beliefs, we share the same foundations of hope.Although it was certainly not a quick read and I found myself re-reading most sections at least twice in order to fully understand the complexities the author relates, I was truly enriched through the experience.

If you seek a deeper understanding of the intricacies of mind, body and spirit, I highly recommend this comprehensive exploration of what makes us powerful, successful and vibrant on all levels.

God’s Hammer- A #HistoricalFiction #MustRead & the #Author who created it.

.

Eric Schumacher is an American historical novelist who currently resides in Santa Barbara, California, with his wife and two children. He was born and raised in Los Angeles and attended college at the University of San Diego.

At a very early age, Schumacher discovered his love for writing and medieval European history, as well as authors like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Those discoveries continue to fuel his imagination and influence the stories he tells. His first novel, God’s Hammer, was published in 2005. He has since published two additional novels, Raven’s Feast and War King. All three tell the story of Hakon Haraldsson, the first Christian king of Viking Norway.

.

His historical fiction novel God’s Hammer is a true must read!

History and legend combine in the gripping tale of Hakon Haraldsson, a Christian boy who once fought for the High Seat of a Viking realm.

It is 935 A.D. and the North is in turmoil. King Harald Fairhair has died, leaving the High Seat of the realm to his murderous son, Erik Bloodaxe. To solidify his claim, Erik ruthlessly disposes of all claimants to his throne, save one: his youngest brother Hakon.

Erik’s surviving enemies send a ship to Wessex, where the Christian King Athelstan is raising Hakon. Unable to avoid his fate, he returns to the Viking North to face his brother and claim his birthright, only to discover that victory will demand sacrifices beyond his wildest nightmares.

.

Eric, What do you love most about Writing?

What I love most about writing is disappearing into my imagination. I will start writing and hours can pass in what feels like minutes. Nothing else I do has that same affect on me.

Do your characters dictate what or how your write in any way?

Absolutely. My characters often throw a monkey wrench into my writing. I’ll be in the midst of writing dialogue or an action scene and suddenly my characters will do something unexpected. I pursue that new angle or direction because it usually feels appropriate for that character. The challenge, though, is that it can take the story in a new direction that may veer too far from historical facts, so I’ve learned to be cautious. Still, it is always a nice surprise when my characters come alive like that.

What’s exciting you about your next project?

A few things have really got me jazzed. While I’m sticking with Viking historical fiction, I am venturing into a new story with all new historical and fictitious characters. Developing those characters has been a ton of fun. I am also experimenting with a different POV, which is daunting and exciting all at once. It’ll be a few more months, but I can’t wait to share the project with the world!

Peace-Warms-the-Spirit

Best Seller! Must Read! Page-turner!
Wait? How does one define precisely what these are when, to coin the over-utilized phrase, “Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder”?  What makes a book something you cannot put down? What compels readers to forego sleep in order to delve deeper into the tale?  The answers might be as varied as the stories themselves and as opposing as the increasing influx of dichotic material available to read.  So when I ask myself if my own writing is Page-turning or a Must Read Best Seller, I often end up more muddled than before I began musing.

Sure, you and I and every other author vying for public attention dreams of giving J.K. Rowling a run for her money and I think we would all agree that finding our book listed as #1 on the New York Best Sellers list would be cause for celebration; yet, for myself, I often end up shaking my head. No, I find myself saying.  I am not honestly sure I want Dark Fey to be mixed in with the hoopla that makes the big bucks.  Yes, awards are an honour. Yes 5-Star reviews make my head spin, my heart hammer and often are cause for a good (happy) cry, but at the end of the day I am not worried so much about the golden glory of the spotlight, the red carpet hullabaloo, or crowds shouting for autographs….no really. Honest, I’m not.

I just want to tell a story that will linger in the thoughts of a reader, perhaps even take up residence in their hearts, and share a gentle message of Hope that might, just possibly, maybe, brighten someone’s darkness.  I long to share the power of acceptance and forgiveness that can alter our reality for the better in a quiet, memorable way that might, maybe possibly, make someone smile, or, even better, change someone’s perception of that guy across the street or that lady down the hall or that kid on the bus; because, at the end of the day, as Evondair in Breaking Into The Light so eloquently asks: “How else might we achieve peace if we do not become peace?”

At this festive season of the year, this simple, yet powerful mantra seems to be even more poignant, as so many find the holiday season less than joyful or peaceful. And Although Peace warms the Spirit like the caress of sunshine through a misty haze, the shadows of sorrow and loneliness often block those radiant beams. Dark Fey shares the gentle message that we carry the Light with us, within us, and it we ourselves who can alter another’s reality through the simple act of becoming what we want to see in the world.

Perhaps this short excerpt from Breaking Into The Light, where the Healer Evondair shares the Light he carries within him, may better illustrate just what I’m blathering on about.

Silence 5

The slurking emptiness of the portal spiraled in confounding directions, blackness folding upon darkness, disorientating and robbing him of every sense. Silence filled his hearing, emptiness touched his hands, and piercing blackness robbed his sight as he forced himself to step through the numbing cold nothingness.  Three steps, Gairynzvl had told him; three steps and he would be through the portal, but in the darkness where he lost all perception, including that of his own body, he could not be sure how many steps he had taken and the slowly turning abyss offered no perspective.  Wholly uncertain, Evondair took another step.

The scrunch of gravel beneath his boots reoriented his senses as he took a final step and found himself standing on a dusty, barren track of greyish gravel surrounded by jagged outcroppings of bare rock.  A fetid stench hung upon the thin air and leaching downward from a colourless sky, sooty rain in the form of a heavy mist shrouded everything.   As the remaining Liberators crossed into the Uunglarda, Evondair moved away from the portal and gazed around curiously; yet even as he sought to familiarize himself with the empty wasteland stretching away before him in both directions and ignore the malodorous stench that made him snort in disgust more than once, he reached out through his exceptional gift of discernment.

The action was instinctual; a means of understanding his surroundings and those within it, but opening his mind to the darkness of the Uunglarda was not only an ill-conceived idea, but a thoroughly dangerous endeavor and he instantly regretted it.  With the force of a rushing tide, desperate loneliness and unremitting anguish poured into his being, overwhelming him so completely that he raised his hands to cover his eyes and doubled over with physical pain.  Memories as scathing as a lashing torment serrated through his thoughts; sadistic brutality and remorseless cruelty that drew a profound groan from behind his clenched teeth before the irrepressible tears of more souls than he could number pressed into him like a thousand blades.

He did not say a word, in truth he could not, but as the waves of despair and suffering sought to drag him into the colourless shadows and ensnare him, he fought to withdraw his discernment from the darkness even as it grasped and clawed at his mind like a ravaging monster.  He could have screamed; he could have cried bitter tears; he could have cursed repeatedly in fluent Dlalth as the comprehension of the dark language of the Reviled filled his mind as clearly as his own did, but he did none of these things. As the deluge of misery wrenched at his mind and heart and the dejectedness of the lost Fey of the Light tore at his sanity, he centered his thoughts on the only thing in all of existence that was capable of defeating the darkness.  Filling his mind’s eye with an image of bright, clear, sparkling Light, he focused his attention on the wails and screams shattering his thoughts and answered their cries for mercy with the strongest weapon at his disposal.

Unspoken, yet heard as clearly as thunder rolling across the scorched heavens, the compassionate love that filled his entire spirit reached outward benevolently, silencing the calamitous uproar as a breathless pause stretched across the gloom.

#FridayFantasy – Standing In Shadows – #BehindtheScenes

With the recent release of book three of the series (Breaking Into The Light) I thought I’d share a tidbit of info about Dark Fey: Standing in Shadows, book two of the Dark Fey Trilogy, which delves deeper into the mystery and suspense of the tale initiated in book one: The Reviled.

In book two, readers discover the history behind the main character, Gairynzvl, in greater detail as they learn about the harrowing life he endured among the Reviled of the Uunglarda, as well as the terrors of The Integration; the process of intentional cruelty and neglect designed to twist childfey into Dark Ones.  Although Standing in Shadows reaches deeper into the shadows, it never strays entirely out of the Light, relating a tale of both fear and hope as readers share Gairynzvl’s challenges to return into a restored life.

Although certainly darker than book one, Standing in Shadows does not incorporate this level of horror simply for the sake of it. One does not need to open the pages of a book to discover the unthinkable, as the darkness typically embodied in fantasy genre stories by some terrifying being or creature is very much alive in our own reality and this is the underlying motivation for the darkness woven into Dark Fey.  Standing in Shadows was based in great part upon the terrifying, yet true-life events of the Lord’s Resistance Army or LRA, a rebel militant group in Uganda that has for over 20 years abducted children from their homes; forcing them to commit horrifying acts of violence against each other and their own people. These children suffer a very real Integration and, like the childfey of Jyndari, they endure violence, starvation, multiple rapes and beatings at the hands of truly sadistic overlords.  This is how the Reviled came to life and became the unthinkably cruel beings depicted in Dark Fey.

However dark, Standing in Shadows also gives readers the opportunity to explore the vibrant realm of Jyndari more fully.  There are accounts of distant lands and exotic wildlife; readers join the villagers of Hwyndarin in a night of celebration and exquisitely described traditional music; and the characters even get time to enjoy a heart-pounding sporting event, but through it all, Gairynzvl’s purpose remains and the reasons why he wants to return into the dark realm of The Uunglarda are ultimately exposed.

In spite of the dangers involved and the very great risk of sparking full-scale war with the Reviled, Gairynzvl has an inescapable need to go back into the dark realm of the Uunglarda to rescue as many of the childfey trapped there as he can find. The success of his plan will hinge upon more than courage and military strategy; it will call upon the unique skills and magic of each individual who chooses to join his band of Liberators, and it will require a level of dependence upon each other for which few of them are prepared.  Their actions will test all of their limits, could easily divide loyalties, and will shake the foundations of everything The Fey of The Light have accepted as truth for thousands of years. Can Gairynzvl convince his friends and the Temple Elders to allow him to return to the Uunglarda?  Who will join him to help the innocent childfey who have been abducted into the realm of shadows and fear?  Will the Fey of the Light risk a savage war in order to rescue so few, and will any of them be prepared to face the consequences of their actions?

#FridayFantasy – Meet The #Characters of #DarkFey

.

As I prepare to complete book three of the Dark Fey Trilogy this weekend (YAY!) I thought I might share the characters with you and (hopefully) spark your interest.
(Click the links to read a full post about the character)

Gairynzvl – The Dark Fey Himself, who inspired the tale and whose life as a captive in the dark realm of the Uunglarda compels change.

Mardan – Rival of Gairynzvl who opposes his every action, until he realizes how much he has risked and how much he has to give.

Evondair – The forceful Healer who would rather be reading, but chooses to join Gairynzvl and, ultimately, changes the course of Fey history.

Ayla – Initially, the main character about who the story first revolves.  Her weakness is her greatest strength, without whom, Gairynzvl never would have had a chance.

Bryth – A minor character who takes on greater responsibilities in book two and three. He is a Fey Guard Captain, ready to defend with his life; yet, also, ever ready with a quick jibe.  He holds those around him together and reminds them of their responsibilities.  The attached link shows a bit of his humourous side.

Ilys – a Dark Fey shedemon who comes into the story in book two. She’s known Gairynzvl a long time, in many ways. A Fey of the Light who was abducted as a childfey and, as a result, lives with haunting memories every day; she is a portrayal of PTSD.

Rehstaed – (pronounced with a trilled R-eh-stayed) is introduced in Dark Fey: Standing In Shadows and becomes one of the central, supporting characters in the story. He suffered so horrifying a loss in his personal life that he now simply exists day to day, lost in an addiction to temple wine that makes his life bearable.

Veryth – Although he is a supporting character in the trilogy, his contributions are vital to the story and, indeed, the Fey with whom he interacts.  His influence is gentle, yet powerful.

.

If you’ve read the books, I’d love to know: Who is your favourite character…and why?

fallen-trees-night

.

Hours of love and passion, energy and commitment, concentration and effort fill the pages of our most enticing reads and very often we turn the pages without giving much thought into what it took to create that which we are enjoying.  We immerse ourselves in the alternate reality and lose track of time and place as the story sweeps us away from our own troubles or concerns; though frequently through drawing us into others, either imaginary or history.  Yet we who love words find little else so satisfying or gratifying as those beautiful pages of ink and typeset.  Whether we are the reader or the writer, the pleasure is undeniable and, hopefully, inescapable!

So when an author whose writing we admire and thoroughly enjoy takes time out of their busy schedule to read our own words, the honour is entirely REAL, though often indescribable. And (I know, I know, it’s grammatically incorrect to begin a sentence with AND) when that master of spellcasting (because in my opinion writing is indeed a form of magic, the result of which is spellcasting, though that is probably another post entirely) then reviews our work with language that is satisfying and gratifying the pleasure is similarly undeniable and inescapable.

Richard M. Ankers recently honoured me by not only purchasing a copy of the second book in my Dark Fey Trilogy, Standing In Shadows, but he announced that honour on his blog through this post The Fey Have Arrived.

Now Richard has done something even more marvelous.  He’s written a 5-Star review of Standing In Shadows, which is something I know he does not do very often.  I am beyond honoured, delighted, excited…though I would have to search my thesaurus for quite a while in order to define exactly how I am feeling. Suffice it to say that the smile hasn’t left my face yet and its been hours since I’ve read his review.  Thus, I had to take a moment (or perhaps twenty) to share this honour with you.

” Cynthia Morgan demonstrates a complete mastery of the dark fairytale she has created drawing us the reader into this second book in the world of The Fey. The feeling of authenticity is quite literally spellbinding from the new take on the genre to even the pronunciation’s of the character’s names.

Gairynzvl, Standing in Shadows’ dark antihero, is a man on a mission, a loner by nature, who must seek out the help of others.

Centred around saving the childfey, Gairynzvl must enter The Uunglarda to save them, the home of The Reviled – they aren’t too nice at all. Ayla, the protector of the light and would-be love interest, and others, must join forces to aid him in both entering and escaping a realm few would dare tread.

Never less than compelling and with a decided darkness throughout, Standing in Shadows is a book any Fantasy aficionado would relish. Sufficiently sprinkled with delicious descriptions and a sprinkling of romance, the final line leaves us salivating with its ominous undertones.

More, we shout! We want more!”

You can look at the review here

I want to say Thank You Richard, for your amazing support and for advocating and sharing Dark Fey.  It means more than I can articulate, even with my wealth of words.

Thank You.

~Morgan~

#FridayFeyDay – A Gentle Message

Unspoken, yet heard as clearly as thunder rolling across the scorched heavens, the compassionate love that filled his entire spirit reached outward benevolently, silencing the calamitous uproar as a breathless pause stretched across the gloom.

.

Moving to within inches of her, he glared down at her as he had done the first night they met, his lavender-ice stare piercing her as effectively as his crimson glare had done that first, fearsome night.  Spreading his wings to their fullest, he held them over her head in a threatening display and growled in answer.

“I thought you understood.  I thought you felt what I suffered and would never refuse to help those innocent ones who live under that same torment every day, but you are far too concerned with your own safety, with your own pleasure, to think of others.”  Appalled by his scathing accusation, she stared back at him mutely, openly aghast, but he did not give her time to collect her thoughts to formulate a rebuke before he continued even more impatiently.

“They are Childfey Ayla!  Babes and toddlefey who are neglected, abused, and tormented!  They suffer ALONE all the pain and anguish you felt through me.  How can you hesitate?  I thought as a Guardian you were dedicated to protecting the innocent. That is why I came to you.  I thought asking for your help would be uncomplicated, but you seem to make everything complicated.”  Tears rimmed in her amber eyes in spite of her anger, though her emotion was not instigated by his caustic reprimand or as a result of him forcing the memories of his own Integration upon her again.  He did not have to; she remembered the horrors of his past well enough.

.

A snippet from Dark Fey: Standing In Shadows.  Gairynzvl understands only too well the traumatic and harrowing treatment suffered by childfey who are abducted by The Reviled.  His only wish is to rescue them, as many as he can, but he cannot succeed on his own.

Words and Imagery, voices shouting, metal skirling upon metal, screams of fear and viperous hissing filled my thoughts this morning amid my morning walk.  No, I was not exercising in the midst of an active war zone, but as Within Temptation rang within my headphones, a pinnacle scene I have been struggling with for nearly two weeks, trying to sort it out, came to fruition in my thoughts.  An hour and nearly 4 miles later, I found myself rushing homeward, the battle raging in my imagination; begging me to wait no longer, compelling me to spend the hours of my day entrenched with them, delivering childfey out of harm, exposing hidden truths, and honouring my warriors with an action scene unlike any I’ve written before…

Thus, as the hours unwind, you will not find me here, but secreted away, fulfilling my obligation.

The story awaits, and is waiting for you as well.  All Weekend, Dark Fey:  The Reviled, book one of the Dark Fey Trilogy is on SALE.

“I was pulled along with the characters in every emotional direction they went. I’m not a massive fan of the Tinkerbelle type fairy as I do love stories that have a darker edge to them but his book managed to give the reader both sides and balanced them beautifully. It is not only about light and dark but truth and acceptance, forgiveness and loyalty, love and pain.” – Brienne, Escapology Reviews
“Dark Fey left me breathless. There is mystery in every page. As I made my way through the story, I discovered heightened sensitivities to empathy and intuition I often take for granted. The story speaks to the soul. It takes us on a thrilling adventure into life, love, and the invisible wonders that surround us.” – Author Paul DeBlassie III

The Meaning Behind The Fantasy

.

Many have asked me to explain to them what Dark Fey is about and how it was inspired.  The original inspiration for the story came to me through a vivid dream, which I could not stop thinking about days afterward.  As I thought about it, the characters stepped out of the shadows of the dream and demanded my full attention, so I finally sat down and wrote out the entire scene as I saw it in my mind, which is now Chapter Six of The Reviled.(which you can preview in its entirety here)

The story of Dark Fey is set in a Fantasy Realm of my own creation, but the message is relative to our own reality.  That The Power of Hope, Acceptance and Forgiveness can change the world, if you take Positive Action to Create Change through doing what is Right.  Or you might say:  The only way to achieve Peace is to become Peace.  This message came partially as a result of learning about the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) in Uganda, where militant rebels have been abducting children for over 20 years, integrating them into their army through abuse and cruelty, and forcing them to endure lives of violence.  I was moved to my very spirit by such a horrifying truth and chose this medium to share a similar story. However, unlike our own reality where this atrocity continues even today, the Fey of Jyndari choose to change their world by taking Positive Action through Sacrifice, Acceptance and Forgiveness.

The “Brutally Beautiful” story is nail-biting and suspenseful; lush and lyrical; spiritual, yet powerfully relevant.  Beneath the drama; behind the romance; and perhaps in spite of the darkness it contains, Dark Fey shares a message of Hope for the seemingly hopeless.

It is my Hope to be able to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sales of Dark Fey to UNICEF’s work in Uganda where they actively rehabilitate the children affected by the LRA.

.I hope this may convey some insight to the story for any who many be curious.
