What if the Fountain of Youth was real?

Humans have always been obsessed with aging and death. Throughout history, the quest for a way to remain forever young has consumed mankind. What if two men stumbled upon a way to ensure eternal youth? What if it changes their lives, not only for the better, but in ways they never could have imagined?

Immortal is a story filled with adventure, mystery, and thrilling twists. Follow these men as they stumble upon not only their greatest discovery, but possibly their ultimate undoing.

.

My Review-  5-Stars!

Through the shifting tides of time, humans have yearned for eternal youth. How does one achieve the seemingly impossible? Is youth a physical or mental condition? Immortal unlocks the mind to explore these questions and more. It challenges the reader to step beyond the box of contemporary thinking and reach beyond accepted limitations. Each page invites the reader to not only enjoy the tale unfolding around two compelling and relatable characters, but to question deeper and seek further along with the characters.

A thoroughly unexpected and satisfying page-turner, Immortal will tempt you to unlock the Fountain of Youth waiting in your own life. A highly recommended read, particularly for these challenging times.

.

Set in 1989, a year after the Olympic Games in South Korea, this is the true story of a young dancer, whose naive dream of working in the Far East turns into a nightmare.

Signing a six month contract, she is whisked off to the other side of the world where she finds herself in a host of situations which she is ill-equipped to deal with. Dancing her way across South Korea with two friends, she is propositioned by the Mafia, turned away by the British Embassy, caught in a student riot, and taken to Korean brothels to name but a few of her ordeals and adventures.

At times both shocking and humorous, this story takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as you follow the life of a timid young girl ,finding her voice and learning to stand up for herself in a male-orientated world of alcohol, sex and seedy nightclubs.

.

About the author: For over twenty years, Michele Northwood was a dancer, magician and fire-eater who toured the world in theatre, musicals and circus.

She has been in the Guinness Book of records for being part of the world´s largest Human mobile while working for the circus of horrors as their first “Girl inside a bottle”. She has rubbed shoulders with Sting, Chris de Burg, David Copperfield, Claudia Schiffer and Maurice Gibb from the Bee Gees. Michele has worked as a knife throwers assistant, assisted a midget in his balancing act and has also taken part in the finale of a Scorpions concert.

When she retired from entertainment, she went back to school and now has a First Class Honours degree in Modern languages, (English and Spanish). Since graduating, she has won two writing competitions, and her first novel: “Fishnets in the Far East: A Dancer´s Diary in Korea” has recently won an award for “Best Memoir” with TCK Publishing. The sequel: “Fishnets and Fire-eating” is currently being edited and she is now working on her third book.

She currently lives in Spain with her Spanish husband, three dogs and two cats. She is a qualified English teacher and works in a public school as well as in her own private school.

The Kalis Experiments (Tides Book 1) Kindle Edition

by R.A. Fisher

Syrina is a Kalis: a master of disguise, assassin, and spy. Her kind has served the High Merchants’ Syndicate for a thousand generations.

She receives a surprising gift from her master, and she realizes something isn’t right. The High Merchants don’t do anything without a reason.

When things don’t add up in an otherwise normal investigation, she follows the trail to the steam-powered city of Fom. There, she learns of a machine that could end civilization a second time.

Will Syrina stave off disaster, or seek revenge?

.

My 5-Star Review:

An absorbing Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Steampunk/ mystery saga that makes me wish for a T.V. Series!

The Kalis Experiments, Book One Tides, has opened a brand-new world of Sci-Fi adventure.  The world building is immaculate, in-depth, and so original I found myself re-reading entire chapters just to fully appreciate all the subtle details and intricacies R.A Fisher has woven into his exceptional tale. The main character is equally unique, well-conceived, and thoughtfully introduced, allowing readers to identify with her despite her alien nature.

Thoroughly enjoyable and written with a likable prose style, I am eager to see where the author takes the story through the rest of the series.

.

Biography

Robert Fisher has lived in Hiroshima, Japan with his wife and five-year-old son since 2015, where he occasionally teaches English, writes, and pretends to learn Japanese. Before that he lived in Vancouver, Canada where he worked in the beer industry and mostly just cavorted about, getting into trouble and eating Thai food.

He placed fourth in The Vancouver Courier’s literary contest with his short story The Gift, which appeared in that paper on February 20, 2009. His science fiction novella The God Machine was published by Blue Cubicle Press in 2011 under the name Robert Fisher.

He has been trying to write stories since he was four years old

Beloved Traitor (Fragile Fate Trilogy Book 1)

by Jeremiah Dungan

When the highest prophet in the land wields his power, kings and queens become pawns.

Coerced into betraying the barbarian king who raised him, a disowned mage, Brandt, kills the high queen, sending the already unstable regions into chaos. His mage nature and the scars of the past fight against his desire to be a better man as he attempts to find common ground amid the feuding powers.

While Brandt struggles for a place with the noble mages and barbarians, his actions send three princesses on paths that will take them far from home. Each carry passions and fears they must control if they are to become more than prisoners of fate. Carving new paths could lead to the devastation or salvation of themselves as well as the kingdom.

With powerful men holding the truths of the past in the shadows, how the young prince and princesses choose to wield their new power could destroy them all. Can they bring peace to the kingdom or will they be the next victims sacrificed in the fight for the high throne?

.

MY 5-Star Review

In a realm where magic and mages are all powerful and submission is forced onto those assumed to be weak, an intriguingly complex array of characters spin out a tale that is wholly relatable to our present reality.  With a Viking-Norse flair and a driven pace, I found myself reading longer than I planned to each time I picked up the book simply because I was so captivated. I couldn’t put it down.  I kept saying ‘just one more chapter….’

This epic fantasy not only set the ground work for its sequel, which I’m eagerly anticipating, but took its time, delivering deliciously satisfying world-building and introducing a marvelous collection of fascinating characters I learned to both love and hate.  I hope the author doesn’t keep us waiting too long for book 2!

Ayla has an exceptional combination of magical gifts: empathic telepathy, discernment, and the gift of healing.

Gairynzvl was abducted by The Reviled at the age of seven, and suffered cruel neglect, abuse and deprivation – a process designed to turn childfey from the Light.

Now, fifteen years later, he is a Dark One who lingers in the shadows, trying to communicate with Ayla.

Through her extraordinary gifts and against all odds, Ayla listens to him when no others will, and touches his pain.

I loved it! I only put it down a few times. I love the characters and how the story flows. I’m really excited to read the next one!

5.0 out of 5 starsInteresting take on fantasy!!

The Reviled (Dark Fey Book One) had everything I like in a fantasy novel. Good characters, surprising twists, a little romance, and action. Ayla was a personable character, but Gairynzyl stole the show. A Dark Fey trying to return to the light, his contact with Ayla sets the stage for the story. Ayla’s struggle to decide between two worlds and two loves made it a great tale. Overall, an excellent read!

Playing in the Rain- a #Sci-Fi, #Post-Apocalyptic, #Suspense #Page-Turner

Sandra J. Jackson is an award-winning Canadian author living in rural Ontario with her family. Her published novels include Promised Soul and Playing in the Rain – Book 1 of the Escape Series. The second book of the series is awaiting publication while Sandra works on editing the final book. She holds a professional membership with the Canadian Author Association and is a member of Writer’s Ink.

Playing in the Rain

When the effects of a hypnosis inducing drug fade, April slowly begins a conscious awakening. Memories of her past are unclear and she has no recollection of her identity or her whereabouts.

As the days slip by, April realizes there is more to life than existing when she is introduced to an occupant who does just that—her sister. The more she learns about her environment the more she wants to escape.

Will April remember her past, her sister? Will she have the courage to leave?  And if she does, where will she go?

Experience through April’s eyes her struggle to remember and her determination to escape in this sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, suspense story.

.

Hi Sandra!  Its  great having you stop by for a quick chat.  Tell us about you.  What do you love most about Writing?

What I love most is that no matter what ideas I might have my characters are the ones who direct the story. They surprise me every time.

I love when they do that!  I like to tell their story, using 2nd person.  Do you have a preferred POV that you write from and why?

Both of my books are written in first person (though Promised Soul does have a couple of chapters written in third). I like the way first person draws readers into a story and makes them feel like they are a part of it.

First person is something I haven’t tried yet.  Maybe one day.  Makes me wonder, does it drive how your write….and Do your characters dictate what or how your write in any way?

Absolutely! I have a quote that I use on my business cards and a few other things. “Only my characters truly know what’s happening—I just hold the pen.”

I wrote that quote because this is how it is for me.

Oh thats so true…I never know where they will lead me. Im often just holding on for the ride!  Playing in the Rain sounds like a marvelous, page-turner!  Where can we find it?

Veryth- A #FantasyCharacter for #PositiveChange

veryth

.

A Friend and fellow Author recently invited me to do a character interview with one of my characters from Dark Fey and after much consideration, I decided it should be Veryth. Although he is a supporting character in the trilogy, his contributions are vital to the story and, indeed, the Fey with whom he interacts. His influence is gentle, yet powerful and, although he would never step forward of his own volition, being entirely good-natured and humble of spirit, I couldn’t resist giving him some much deserved attention. I hope you may enjoy discovering more about him and do please feel free to share what you think and if you have any additional questions about/for him.

Hello Veryth, Thank You for taking time out of your busy schedule at the Temple to speak with us and tell us about yourself. I am honoured.

What are you passionate about? – I am a Healer whose focus is Counseling. I follow a creed of Guide Gently, Lead Quietly, Extol Empoweringly, which allows me to help others help themselves. This is the deepest aspiration of my spirit and fulfills my purpose.

In most times, what would someone find you doing? I reside at the Temple so I may be close to the Healing Wards at all times. If any fey is in need, I am available to give assistance, offer support, suggest guidance or simply to listen. This is what I love doing and you rarely find me amidst any other activity, although I do enjoy reading and quiet walks, as they allow me to refocus my energy and settle my mind.

Please tell us, who are you really. What do you look like, where/when are you from, what would you say is your biggest strength, biggest weakness? I am a Fey of the Light who is old enough to have been unified to my beloved, who bore us a beautiful daughter; young enough to still connect with the youth of the village and vibrant enough to play an active role in our community. I am of an average height for a malefey at 5’10” with a healthful physique, dark blond hair, deep green eyes (from which my name was inspired), and typical, broad, white-feathered wings. My beloved insisted I am handsome as well as kind of spirit and wise beyond my years, but my humility normally does not permit me to boast such things. I was born and raised in the village Hwyndarin, where I am happy to make my home among the Fey I care about so deeply.

My strongest skill is an ability to remain calm even in the most intense situations, which I am able to share with others through my gift of Empathic Transference, which is the ability to share my emotions with others. This same gift, however, also presents the most challenges. It has taken most of my life to hone this gift and learn how to govern it, because, as you might imagine, such a skill could unintentionally overwhelm another or be utilized with cruel or unkind intent.

What is the most important thing to you? Helping others. It is what my essence drives me to do and what gives me a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

What irks you the most? I have a reasonably even temperament; not much irks or irritates me, however, I would be untruthful if I said the heartless cruelty of the Reviled and their unthinkable need to inflict harm does not, at times, make me wish I had more of a warrior nature.

What delights you the most? Seeing positive change, whether in the life of an individual whom I or another Healer may have aided or through the actions of a group, such as the Liberators, led by the Fierce One, Gairynzvl.

What is one thing that you want us to know about you? Though I do not often speak of such a heart-rending loss, the reason I chose to dedicate my life to helping others was inspired, in no small part, by the help I received (from Healers and Counselors) after the Reviled stole both my beloved and our only child from me. It took much time to recover from such an unspeakable injury, not only to my heart but also my spirit, but I learned much through the loss and grief, and the challenges I faced to try to set my life to some useful purpose. I cannot help, now, believing that the darkness, which steals into all of our lives at some point or another, is there to challenge us to become more than we are at that moment. It is an opportunity to make a change, a positive change, that can and often will not only effect our own life, but the lives of those around us. At least, in my case, this is true.

Where can we find you? I am usually to be found in the precincts of the Temple and play an active, although gentle, role in the entire Dark Fey Trilogy.

Thank You, Veryth, for sharing your Inspiring story with us. I hope these few insights will help others understand your vital Purpose better. You honour me generously. It is I who Thanks You.

The Protagonist Speaks – #Epic #YA #CharacterSpotlight

Fellow Fantasy author and blogger Assaph Mehr has a website solely dedicated to character interviews! Very Cool, right?! The Protagonist Speaks is dedicated to the characters living inside the books we love. Each week they aim to publish an interview with a protagonist from a novel they believe in. Yep, you read that right. The protagonist – or antagonist! – from the book. Not the author. Not the reviewer. The character. They aim to put the characters in the limelight – to be heard, to be felt. …Which is a notion I believe in as well, since I also do Character Spotlights.

So when Assaph said he’d enjoy talking with Gairynzvl, the lead of my Epic YA Fantasy Dark Fey Trilogy, I couldn’t refuse. Gairynzvl could, of course. One never knows when it comes to unpredictable malefey, but fortunately he was in a talkative mood. Below you will find the conversation, and the link to the full interview on Assaph’s site.

.

Tell us a little about where you grew up. What was it like there?

My life has been dichotic. I spent my first seven years in the village Hwyndarin with my family and the Fey of the Light. It is a place of simple beauty and communal living, where each villager shares life’s responsibilities and burdens. I was very young, but remember playing with friends and learning to fly amid the forests, streams and meadows bathed in sunlight.

When I reached 7 ½, I was abducted by the Reviled Fey and spent the next 15 years of my life trying to survive the gloom and shadows of their dark realm, the Uunglarda. No sunlight warms their barren dominion and the skies are choked with soot and poisonous fumes. I suffered the Integration; five years of neglect designed to turn childfey into monsters and each day was a torment of hunger, thirst, cold, and abuse.

Gosh, that sounds horrible. How did you manage to hold onto hope? Was is a cherished memory, a favourite toy you clung to, a friend?

We had no toys in the Uunglarda, and very few friends, but I was determined not to forget the ones I had and to see them again. I kept the Light alive any way I could, mostly by repeated prophecies I had already learned and secretly studying others. Although I had to keep it completely hidden, which was not easy in a place where you are forced to do horrible things every day, as time went on, I formed a few secret alliances with Dark Ones who wanted to escape as much as I did and our mutual dream of freedom kept hope alive.

What do you do now?

Even though I have returned to the Light and live in Hwyndarin once again, I spend much of my time training with an exclusive unit of Fey Guards dedicated to the covert operation of returning into the Uunglarda at undisclosed times to rescue younglings and those Dark Fey who wish to escape.

That’s very heroic, but also dangerous, isn’t it? Have you always been driven to risk so much for others?

It is unquestionably dangerous, but also a self-rewarding sacrifice and one I am very willing to make, especially when I can see childfey restored to their families or those who will love and care for them. I would never call myself heroic, though I might agree with driven. Some of my friends describe me as tenacious and the Reviled thought me infuriatingly stubborn, (well, some of my friends say that too!) I simply choose to believe that positive action creates positive results and this conviction has proven true. Consequently, I am motivated to do more because it is so satisfying.

When you first decided to take such risks to help yourself and others, did you think you would succeed?

Honestly, no, but it was all I had; it was the only thing that kept me from being consumed by darkness. When I doubted, I forced myself to read and re-read the ancient texts, searching for anything that might help. When I met others who were doing what I was, it became easier to believe we would achieve our goal, but it was only when I first saw Ayla, the Fey of the Light Child Guardian who helped me when no one else would, that I knew with certainty I would stand in the Light once more.

Reaching out to her was extremely risky, wasn’t it? What was the most frightening thing about risking so much?

I risked everything and, believe me, it was terrifying. I lived in fear for months. If the Reviled had found out or caught me, I would have faced unbearable torture as a traitor. If Ayla had chosen not to listen to me and help, my only chance of escape would have failed, and if she had told others about the dark one who was following her for months trying to communicate with her from the shadows, I could have been captured and thrown into the Prison of Daylight; executed by the same Light I sought to return to.

Fey of the Light are taught from a very young age to fear the Reviled. As one of them, what was the hardest thing you had to do to convince her she could trust you?

The night I chose to confront her was stormy and the darkness aided my crossing, but I knew coming face to face with a Dark Fey, alone, would frighten her immeasurably. So, I had taught myself a spell that would protect her from the Legion I was forced to traveled with by casting a brilliant light, which would block them from crossing over to harm her and give me time to convince her I was no threat. It was difficult not only because I had no desire to scare her, but the light I used to protect her, at the time, was lethal to me. If she had not chosen to act and help me, it would have killed me.

Risking so much was certainly difficult; so, what was the best part of that night?

Ayla used her very special gifts to help me escape the torrent of light I had created. She covered me with her body; extended her strength to bolster my own and physically dragged me into the darkness of the parlor before it was too late. I remember standing there in the shadows trying to catch my breath as the sensation of burning I had been suffering subsided. She lay on the floor at my feet, utterly exhausted and overwhelmed; yet she did not try to run from me. In fact, she reached up to touch my hand, as if making sure I was all right. It was an extremely intense moment. For 15 years, no one had done anything for me; yet, although she was frightened, overcome, and wracked by physical and emotional pain that was not her own (because she had connected with mine), she did not retreat from me, but chose to draw closer.

That was and still is the most indescribable feeling I have ever experienced.

Are you still close to Ayla?

Yes, I am.

What does the future hold for the two of you?

She is my Beloved One, but this is all I will say.

Some things are too personal to talk about?

Something like that.

(smiling) I understand, but before we end our conversation, can you share a secret with us, which you’ve never told anyone else?

Hmmm? Sure, I know something, a very old prophecy, that can change the world for all Fey……

.

I would like to thank Assaph for this marvelous opportunity. It was a pleasure learning more about Gairynzvl, even for me, who wrote him. Please be sure to visit The Protagonist Speaks to read more fantastic character interviews (or to set one up for your own character!)

The story of Dark Fey is set in a fantasy realm of Jyndari, a world of beauty, magic, Light and Darkness. It is peopled by Feyfolk, winged beings the size of any human who are born with gifts of telepathy, empathy and sometimes magic. It relates how the Power of Hope, Acceptance and Forgiveness can change the world, if you take Positive Action to create Change through doing what is Right.

The only way to achieve Peace is to become Peace.

Although their two realms exist in close proximity, most Fey of the Light have never seen an actual Dark Fey and many Dark Fey only encounter very young Fey of the Light; yet crossings and abductions happen every day.

As their temples are desecrated, homes are pillaged and plundered, and the peaceful tranquility so important to the Fey of the Light is repeatedly shattered, the Fey Guard stand as protectors. They are mighty in battle and fierce in their vigilance to protect the fragile balance of life for the peaceful Fey of Light

All Fey are born with special abilities, or gifts, such as telepathy, empathy, discernment, or the ability to dream walk. Many also have a gift of magic, though not all, such as spell-casting, enchantment, light bending or element wielding. While the Fey of the Light are beautiful and live harmoniously, the Reviled Fey are the opposite; they revere darkness and fill their lives with cruelty and evil, but all Reviled Fey begin their lives as Fey of the Light. The change comes only if they are abducted as childfey and forced to undergo the Integration, a process of intentional neglect and cruelty designed to twist them away from the Light.

This level of horror is not incorporated into the Dark Fey Trilogy simply for the sake of it. One does not need to open the pages of a book to discover the unthinkable, as the darkness typically embodied in fantasy genre stories by some terrifying being or creature is very much alive in our own reality and this is the underlying motivation for the darkness woven into Dark Fey. It was based in great part on the terrifying, yet true-life events of the Lord’s Resistance Army or LRA, a rebel militant group in Uganda that has for over 20 years abducted children from their homes; forcing them to commit horrifying acts of violence against each other and their own people. These children suffer a very real Integration and, like the childfey of Jyndari, they endure violence and cruelty at the hands of truly sadistic overlords. This is how the Reviled came to life and became the horrifyingly cruel beings depicted in Dark Fey.

This story shares the Power of Hope, Acceptance and Forgiveness through the ideal that you can change the world, if you take Positive Action to Create Change through doing what is Right.

Many times during your journey through the Dark Fey Trilogy, you will encounter words that seem to be capitalized for no apparent reason; yet,it should be noted, these capitalizations are anything but random. They mark either proper nouns, such as Fey of the Light, the Temple, Fey Guards, the Reviled, or the Light, which is not simply a glimmering of illumination, but a connotation that is highly important in the spirituality of Fey. If a word holds specific meaning, it may also be capitalized, such as See, Know, or Understand. You may encounter such words when they are in reference to a Fey gift, such as telepathy, empathy, or discernment, and they carry significant weight so, in order to emphasize their importance, capitalization is used.

Join me as we embark into this realm of Light and Dark. Allow your imagination take over as you experience the Jyndari forest and The Fey of the Light’s struggle with The Reviled. Let the Light reach outward from these pages and draws you into on a journey that promises to change your way of thinking.

Biologist Emily Dickens is a conservationist who works tirelessly against the destruction of the planet Valencia and the near extinction of its wildlife. The battle seems hopeless until a young goddess from the sister world of Terra hears her pleas and sends out a small army of the most unlikely rescuers. There’s only one problem – Emily has grown up in a world that was abandoned thousands of years ago by its ruling goddesses. It will take a little enchantment and a lot of faith for Emily to start healing her planet again and sending its creatures to the only safe haven she can find.

A Brief Excerpt from the book:

Jabaz: father of all the gods, creator of all the heavens and the cosmos, journeyed through the glimmering lights of his universe.

He’d done this so many times before, making each of his worlds a little different from the others.  But this one, this one was for Ava, the youngest of his daughters, the most ambitious, and for the time being, his favorite.

“She wants plants,” he said, waving a hand and covering the planet with various types of foliage, trees, bushes, ground cover, and even plants to live in the water. “And seas teeming with living creatures, and birds to fill the sky. And let there be beasts to live and roam the lands,” he said, glancing beside him at his daughter. “And let there be no humans to bring them harm, but little Gnomes to guard and care for my creation.”

Ava smiled and kissed her father’s cheek. “Perfect,” she said, with excitement. “It’s just like Emily’s world of Valencia.  Well, kind of.”

Excerpt Description of Realm (Remnant: The Clans of Arcadia) –Farthest westward area of the Elohite ancestral home.

The first rays of light crept over the mountains chasing back the darkness and bathing the cabin in warmth. In the pre-dawn half-light, birds gathered in the branches of the hemlock growing closest to the front window. Their chatter noised through the house and hinted that an early spring might arrive in the mountain region between Erisai and Bardai.

Inside the cabin, the shell of the previous night’s firewood glowed red, and the warm scent of pine still lingered in the air. Its remnants threatened to crumble into ash at any moment.

Excerpt from book two:

Lilia slowed her breathing, trying to slow her heartbeat, then glanced through the clearing. “It’s amazing.”

Karn nodded. “Yes, it is.”

Towering trees covered in deep emerald green moss stood as sentries around the lagoon. Boulders of every size poked out of the water, covered in soft green and yellow hues of lichen, and the rushing rumble of a small waterfall filled the air. The lagoon itself was a deep blue sapphire, and soft wisps of fog rolled across its glassy surface.

Majestic flowering trees surrounded the water. Royal poincianas, hibiscus, plumeria, and hydrangea, created a stunning bouquet near the edge of the forest. The heavy floral scent of the blooming flowers was pleasant but slightly overpowering. However, their presence only increased the majesty of the hidden lagoon.

BEFORE THE BOY The Chilling Prequel to the Inspiring Moon Singer Trilogy by B. ROMAN

Even in death a mother guides her son through triumphs and tragedies to his true destiny.

Billie Nickerson must accept her own mortality as the only way she can assure her son will receive the intuitive gifts he was born to inherit, to save her family – and perhaps the world – from a disastrous fate. But learning that she has died too soon creates a Karmic crisis as Billie tries to escape the afterlife and return to her loved ones.

In this chilling prequel to The Moon Singer Trilogy (The Crystal Clipper, The War Chamber, The Wind Rose) we learn the uncanny circumstances that informed Billie Nickerson’s decision to raise her son, David, to become a seeker of spiritual truth.  As his teacher and mentor she gave him the courage to overcome his unexpected deafness, to excel at music – and to hear the voice within that speaks from his soul.

Though Billie’s life is fraught with danger and dark spirits, and the power that David acquires places him in grave jeopardy, the story is an illustration of a mother’s love and devotion that transcends the boundaries of the here and the hereafter.

*** Book Excerpt

Chapter 9

In the Time Between Time

Billie scans the staging area.  The auditorium is filled to capacity with people milling about in their seats with anticipation.  Only they are not human entities, they are spirits of various levels of experience denoted by their auric colors, ranging from shades of white to yellow to blue.

The orchestra pit is vibrant with violet energies, demonstrating through music the highest form of spiritual evolution.  Every instrument is represented, from ancient celestas, lyres and lutes to zithers, keyboards and horns of every type.

Billie is astonished.  “What is this place? Some sort of performing hall?  I never imagined that heaven – or wherever I am – would look like this.”

“This was your life experience, Billie. The concert hall, the musicians, the crowds.  Your spirit experience will mirror your earthly experience, until you are ready to let go of it.”

“Why are there so many different colors of people?”

“That’s where they are in their soul evolution, each one having achieved a higher state of  development through their music experience.”

“But why do I have no color at all? I think I’m pretty highly developed musically.”

“Because you’ve just begun.  You are white, Blanche, a shining light but a very young soul.”

“That’s odd.  I’ve always felt like an old soul.”

“A popular New Age expression.”

Billie appreciates her guide’s humor, and a feeling of familiarity comes through.  “I know you, don’t I?  I’ve seen you before.  Why, you’re that fortune teller from the tent.  Not Dorinda, but the other one.  I never knew your name.”

“Names are not important here.  I was on a mission that required me to have no identity.”

“A mission?  For me?”

“You didn’t think you were just there in that tent having a Tarot card reading, did you?”

“Obviously not.  But you, and Dorinda – you never really existed.  You were just a figment.  No one ever saw you but me, never even saw that tent or the sign inviting people in for readings.”

“As it was meant to be.”

Billie moves freely through this first experience, then on through various portals.  People that she recognizes from her Earth life are formless, ethereal energies:  an aunt from her father’s side of the family who passed on just before Billie moved to Port Avalon; a cousin who was killed in a plane crash during his first solo flight; a friend from high school who succumbed to leukemia; a teacher who committed suicide when his wife left and took their children with her.  Their faceless forms nod in recognition as they move along on their own personal missions.

Then, emerging through a diaphanous curtain, two figures appear to Billie.   They are old now,  their auras grayed by their harsh life experiences.  Billie had seen them rarely in her last years on Earth, living miles apart as they did, then finally parted by tragedy and death.  But now, as they stand face to face, all the hurt, the anger, the conflicts they engaged in, the feelings of lonely isolation they instilled in her, the insecurities and unworthiness they passed on to her…all those feelings come to the fore and she feels on edge, a tenseness even in this sweet afterlife dimension.

If I hadn’t left them, if I had stayed near them, they would still be alive.  Maybe I could have saved them from that burning building, from an arsonist’s senseless evil.

But then they embrace, and in their need for her, in their longing, Billie senses their sad regret, the apologies they can’t express, the forgiveness they offer her.  She melts into their agony and it transforms into her love for them.  Dissolving into a violet light, they are at last free souls.
