Whispering Serenity- #A Boring Moment -#COVID-19 #Meditations of #Hope

.

Cast the brazen rush of thoughts,

A churning tempest in your mind,

Unto the Solitary wind,

Whispers of Serenity there to Find.

Be Calm among the restless throng

Thrashing in the maddening churn;

Serenity Whispers Quietly

From the Hush of starlight as it burns.

Loose the shackles of dismay

That bind your hands and feet;

Fall into Serenity Whispering

From the garden of moonlight, Smiling Sweet.

Listen not to the wrathsome noise;

Sigh deep and long as the chaos whirls;

Listen to Serenity Whispering

As Tranquility Gently unfurls.

.

Today’s world of rush and hurry, of frenzied business and over-scheduling and impatience may have been calmed, slightly, by the blight of COVID, but the tumultuous storm of social media that has spewed outward in its wake can still leave our spirits needing.  Although it is difficult to avoid, this calamity of chaos can be balanced through the deliberate seeking of Quietness and Calmness, and one does not need a strict regimen of yoga or meditation in order to find it.  What is required, however, is a decision.

Deciding to choose a few moments of Quietness in place of turning on the telly or switching on your playlist can, at first, seem just as challenging as the aforementioned yoga.  Electing to go outside to sit Quietly beneath the stars may sound monumentally boring, and choosing to stay home rather than running out early to grab that over-caffeinated, sugar-infused, powerhouse beverage might lead you to wonder if you’ll stay awake long enough to accomplish the 101 things on your To Do List, BUT the benefits of Quietness and Calmness cannot be overstated.

I recently found myself beside a pristine lake surrounded by acres upon acres of woodland, a crystalline cerulean sky stretching out overhead.  The Quietness and Calmness of that place filled me more sweetly and far more intoxicatingly than the finest wine and the peace that environment suffused into me has lasted days later.  I sat with eyes closed, listening in bewitched breathlessness to the Hush; the whispering wind as it swept its hands through the tawny hair of the bordering trees; the mesmerizing ripples of unobtrusively  burbling water; the laughter of waterfowl praising the golden sunlight and the tambourine chatter of dried leaves tumbling over flaxen grasses.  The Quietness and Calmness filled my senses with Serenity that soothed unlike anything else might, sharing its precepts unforgettably.

All that is required is a decision.

Stop

Close your eyes

breathe

Hear

You may be surprised just how restful a boring moment can truly be !

.

Loving Hands

There was a small village, smack in the middle of nowhere. While the rest of the world updated their Facebook pages, Tweeted, LinkedIn, texted, posted, and multi-tasked at a pace even Data from the Enterprise would find impressive, this tiny island of inhabitation, cohabitation and harmony went on in blissful serenity. Isolated from the modern economy by miles of wilderness and separated from the modern culture of Want, Avarice, Greed, and Self-Promotion, this community set its standards for excellence by different measures.

Led by a Chief who was the most honorable of men, who was just and merciful, caring and compassionate, yet strict in his moral code, the people of the village lived in a collective accord with each other and with nature. They shared their wealth, as well as their poverty, equally; they worked together for the prosperity of all and, when needs arose outside their sphere of influence they would make appeals to their Chief to provide for them.

One day a young man, who was recently married and whose wife was with child, came to the Chief with a request of pressing urgency. Sitting down at the fire with this young man, the Chief listened carefully to his concerns without interruption, his kindly expression filled with understanding and patience. The young man, however, was fretful, distracted, impatient and tense, and repeatedly rose from his place at the fire to pace around the room or go to the door and stare anxiously outward, his emotions ruling his thoughts and logic.

It was not a simple request he was making. What he needed was not something to be found within the limits of the village and the price of collecting it was costly. Nevertheless, the Chief listened, understood, and assured the young man he would work diligently on acquiring the item, regardless of how long it took. He asked the young man to wait until he sent word to him that he had what it was he asked for and could come back to get it. Agitated and unappeased, the young man went away.

The following week the young man returned. His countenance was shaken; his nerves were frazzled. He asked the Chief all over again for the item, repeating much of what he had already said, never giving the Chief a moment to assure him that the process of acquisition was already taking place and it would not be long until it would be shipped to the village. Overwrought by worry, the young man begged insistently, growing angry when the Chief tried to explain the simple fact that, although the man’s request had been heard, it was still being worked on; the young man would have to wait just a bit longer.

Another week passed and no message came from the Chief to tell the young man the item had arrived. Thoroughly vexed, the young man decided to set out on his own for the towns, miles away through savage wilderness, with little money in his pocket. He did not know how he would attain the item he needed, but he carried with him a blade that would protect him from harm as well as convince those who sold the item of his urgent need. He left his home, his wife, his unborn child, his village and his chief.

The very next day word came to his hut that the Chief requested him to come to his tent at the center of the village. The item of his desire had finally arrived; the Chief had worked tirelessly, night and day, to raise funds so it could be purchased, packaged carefully, shipped and he now stood with the delicate, beautiful treasure in his hands, awaiting the young man’s arrival so he could give it to him and they could celebrate together.

The young man, however, did not come. He was lost in the wilderness, miles away, and did not know that the answer to his prayers was waiting for him and that all he had to do was come and receive it.

As the Silence of echoes Peal

As the Whispers of Compassion feel

While the angels stoop to Pray

Fragility strikes the chords that Play

Refrain of Memory sadly Sings

Verses that Eternity brings

Lullaby of ancient Rhyme

Lilting Gentle and Sublime

As the pace of life quickens and demands pull at us from every direction, it is more important than ever to find time to recenter our thoughts, our energy, our essence.Being Mindful of ourselves, our bodies, our place in the eternal cosmos isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I grant you, however, I think it can be agreed that we all, in one way or another, need time to regroup.Some do it through listening to music; others read.Some will meditate or pray, while others, myself included, very often simply sit down amid the beauty of nature, close my eyes, and seek to sense all that is around me.

Feel the Lingering Breath of Day, Caress my skin with Smiling,
Under the Soothing Reassurance of the Golden Setting Sun,
Close my eyes,
Breath is Still and Calm, Sweet Repose Long Sought,
Birdsong fills the Deepening Twilight, Echoes of the Dawn of Time,
Darkness meets my Questing gaze in Emptiness,
Alone,

Draw a deeper breath,
Sweet Tranquility Reaches out,
Brushes her hand across my hurried thoughts and distracted musings,
Resting upon my Upturned cheek
As the Softest Touch of evening Unites with rhythmic breathing,

Deep

Silent

Still

Into the Depths of Quiet Being,
Transposing the chaos of everyday into Harmonious Liturgy,
Heartbeat sounding in my hearing,
Reminder of Precious Life,

Deeper

Quieter

Lingering Longer,

As the Gentle Touch of Your Thoughts finds me,
And Instantly I Smile,

Home

Blessed

Transformed

Time slips through the glass as Union breaks the bonds,
Unfetters the shackles of worry and suppressed fear,
Kisses my Spirit with Peace and Sublime Serenity,

Inward

Placid

Abiding

Hovering Wings of Majesty,
Love Falling like misty rain, Surrounding, Enwrapping, Invigorating,
Catalyst of Untold Alteration, Merging, Joining,
Tears of Quintessential Joy Softly Singing,

Breath

Upward

Return

Refreshed, Renewed in the Lavender Light,
Birdsong fading, Cicadas Droning, Darkness Falling,
Eternity Calling,
Deepest, Cleansing, Stirring Sigh,
Turning my Face Toward the Starlit Sky
In the Presence of all that Truly Shines,
In Moments, Alone,
Touching the Divine

The Whispers of the Breeze
Speaks Silence to my Heart,
In Shades of Indigo Brilliance
And Bright Luminous Mists of Tranquil Blue,
Speaking of Sweet Mystery,
Uttering Paradoxes, Timeless and True.
Unfettered upon this Whisper of Air,
Unchained from Grief, from Doubt, from Despair,
Into the Realms of Pearlescent Dreams,
Glittering Incomprehensibility Streams.

hush4

.

When in the Hush of twilight,

As the golden orb of shimmering light descends

And all the earth sits breathless,

Anticipation building in purest paradox;

As sound and silence mingle,

Tempting and taunting each other in the Stillness,

Close, then, the eyes that seek;

Perceive the Deepness of Tranquility.

As the rush and hurry all around

Pounds and drives, spins and screeches,

Drumming calamity into bone;

Throw off the shackles of terrestrial Being,

Sigh Deep and Long in Sweet Eventide’s Song

and Know the Deepness of Tranquility.

While thoughts spiral in dizzying notions

Delving the depths of Contemplation’s immense ocean

And perplexity flirts with Certainty;

Break the chains that bind your Spirit,

Listen to Serenity;

Be Still and Hear it!

And as the world goes rushing by

Your Dreams will take flight

To Shimmer and Fly.

Amid the Deep Sweet Song of Burgeoning Life

Taste the Deepness of Tranquility

And Release your strife!

Observation and Fragmentation: A #WritingExercise – #WritingPrompts

THIS IS A REPOST OF SUE ASHBY’S MARVELOUS BLOGPOST/WRITING EXERCISE.  I found it so intriguing and inspiring that I did the exercise myself, picking a quiet place to sit and listen, see, smell, taste and touch. (of course, it should come as no surprise that it was nearly midnight, but those of you who know me, realize that finding me somewhere in the sunshine of a summer’s day is about as rare a thing as stumbling across a zebra-stripped unicorn wearing a fedora)…but I digress.  MY observations are listed below the copyright info by Sue.  PLEASE stop by her beautiful photography/poetry blog to enjoy more of her unique insights and observations :  https://perpetualessence.wordpress.com/

Sue Writes:
When my mind gets stuck on the outer beauty of anything, my writing suffers horribly.  Even more so, my entire tank of creative juices drain away until I find my self channel surfing for a distraction from my own stagnation.  Consequently, I get absolutely nothing accomplished.

Back in the early 1980’s I did a lot of backpacking in Colorado’s magnificent wilderness areas, and never went anywhere without a journal and pen.  Quickly, I discovered my own “Zen zone” as I call it.  It is a state of complete relaxation surrounded by the splendors of earth and nature, where I find the flow of creative energy.  This exercise can be done anywhere, and at all times of day or night in any weather.  It is also easily adjustable to suit your own personal needs.  One simply needs to empty all the tumultuous thoughts from your mind and focus for a short time on your immediate surroundings.

The entire concept revolves around utilizing all of your senses to inspect, observe and sift through every nuance of your surroundings within five or ten square feet of where you are sitting.  With imagination this also works very well using photographs.

With paper and pen, find your desired mini retreat and make yourself comfortable.  In parenthesis write down each of your five senses side by side, or each one on a separate piece of paper.  Now mentally dissect every facet of the things around you, reducing everything to its most minute particle.  I start mine like this;

(Sight )
Blue sky
Small puffy white clouds
Decomposed granite
Round, angular, fractured, pointy
Pinks, peaches, white, browns
Bright green moss
Boulders
Curly pale green lichen
Pine trees
Blue jays, etc.

(Touch)
Textures
Dry, dusty, hard
Flows through fingers
Sharp edges
Points, smooth pieces
Soft like fur
Thick like carpet, and so on.

(Sound)

(Smell)

(Taste)
Use discretion.

Once your lists are in detail and complete, contemplate, toss in human interactions, reactions, situations and emotions.  This exercise can help create a storm of lively and solid scenes for a storm of creative projects.  If nothing else, it is always good to empty your mind and contemplate the little things which really are so beautiful.

*********

I wrote:
Lying back upon the grass in my quiet little yard under the glimmering glow of a nearly full moon, I closed my eyes to

(Listen) : hearing most prominently the whirring sound of many a/c units running.  Once I put that aside however, I heard the gentle whisper of the breeze telling me secrets from far away and the occasional chirp of a bird (which always makes my imagination stir.  Why do they sing at night? Are they having a bad dream? Did some creature steal into the nursery to snatch a fledgling?  Or are they, too, simply enjoying the shimmering show of the moon?) I heard the distant rumble of a train and, as ever, the garish noise of traffic from the city not far enough away.

(See): Opening my eyes, I saw first the spectacle of the moon, dancing amid a rolling tide of puffy white clouds sailing effortlessly across the sky.  I saw the shadows of trees across the way and the rustling of their leafy tresses as the night breezes ran its fingers through their hair.  I noticed a nearby rabbit, no doubt awaiting another slice of apple as I am in a habit of giving them apples in the evening; and of course I saw the stars:  those delicate sparkles of ethereal light that ever fill me with lyrical musing (but that is another post!)

(Smell):  I drew a deep breath and smelled the warm humidity that hung on the air like heavy fog mixed with a hint of asphalt from the nearby road.  Not terribly pleasant, but not repulsive.  Clean, hot night air.  Nothing more.

(Taste):  Since I was not eating or drinking, I tasted nothing.  Not a wasted sense, though, as I certainly could have been sipping sweet lemonade.

(Touch):  Reaching down I ran my fingers through the July grass that is rapidly drying up and turning into something much more straw-like than it once had been.  I tousled the heads of a few clover, now resting from the scurrying-hurrying bees that plunder their sweetness all the day long; and I reached outward to caress the sky, feeling the warm blush of the air against my palms and slipping through my fingers as I sighed deeply and smiled, meditating upon the simple yet profound Blessing of five extraordinary senses.

I do so hope you will try this wonderful exercise, if not to stir the inspiration of your thoughts, at least to Kindle the wonder of your spirit in the Beauty of the world around us.

Thank You SUE for such a delightful suggestion!

Liquescent Silence

.

Silence

Black as the dark night

Bespeckled with the Glimmering pinpoints

Of a myriad Lights

Sojourners through the shades of Time

Blending their Inspiration

with Harmonious Rhyme,

To Touch Eternity

In the Transcendent Hush

Sharing Liquescent Silence

As we pause from the rush.

.

The stars and night very often Inspire me, filling my heart with a sense of connection I can scarce fathom, let alone try to explain, though I try through the words of music the Liquescent Silence sings sweetly to me.  This verse is no different, whispering softly of that connection to the past through the Beauty of the night.

Inseparable Uniqueness – #Metaphyscial #Poetry

Inseparable Uniqueness

.

In the Ever Shifting whirl of Time

Where Illusory Perception plays our senses

Like doubtful fire

Dancing in tempestuous writhing Guise

To Entangle our thoughts

With a restless conflagration;

That which stands Apart,

That which shapes Itself after Validity,

Unspoken or wholly Perceived,

Whispers Quietly to our Inmost Self,

Though often all that is outside,

The Noise and Chaos of Self and Self-seated Notions

Mutes and muffles the Sweet Voice

Whispering Quietly to Our Innermost Being,

Whispering Quietly of Peace and Calm,

Serenity and Harmony,

Of our Inseparable Uniqueness Binding us Together,

While wants and desires rampage

Like a torrential flood of hapless abundance,

Persistent contravention

Of those Sweet Soft immutable tones

Whispering Quietly

From All we already Comprehend,

Yet Dare Not to Perceive.

.

We are one, yet we are all.  Individuals tied together by all that makes us individually unique, which separates us as well, but only because we Think it does.  If we look beyond all we perceive as differences, we will see how similar we are, although we are all unique.  Gifts, talents, Hopes, Dreams, they set us apart from the crowd; still, we all Dream, Hope, have talents and gifts that draw us together.  This mind-bending paradox sparked my thoughts and Inspired this equally thought-twisting verse.
