Introducing A New Thing

I’m so excited to finally share something new with you.

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to join my friend, Pastor Chad Slabach, at his church for a conversation that felt both meaningful and surprisingly natural. We talked about faith, symbolism, interpretation, and the ways ancient spiritual teachings can still speak directly into modern life.

The response was wonderfully encouraging, and now we’re taking that conversation one step further with a new podcast called A New Thing.

At the heart of the podcast is a simple question:

What if the ancient stories you thought you knew are actually speaking directly to your life right now?

Chad and I come to these conversations from different, but complementary, perspectives. He brings a modern Christian viewpoint rooted in scripture and pastoral experience. I come to the conversation as an author, artist, and spiritual seeker who approaches faith through a universal lens. Together, we’ll explore the Bible, spiritual teachings, music, movies, books, and the ideas that continue to shape the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.

We’re not interested in telling anyone what they have to believe. We’re interested in asking thoughtful questions.

What else might this story be saying?

What changes when we look at it symbolically as well as literally?

Why do certain truths seem to appear again and again across different traditions, stories, songs, and cultures?

And what can any of this teach us about the lives we’re actually living today?

This isn’t about choosing between religion and spirituality. It’s about finding the bridge between them.

For our first conversation, we returned to an article I wrote some time ago about the Ark of the Covenant and explored a provocative possibility:

What if the Ark of the Covenant was more than just a box?

Most of us know the familiar image of the Ark as a sacred chest carried by the Israelites, but what happens when we look more deeply at its symbolism, its construction, the stories surrounding it, and what it may represent spiritually?  That became the starting point for a much larger conversation about sacred stories, interpretation, and the ways ancient wisdom can remain surprisingly relevant thousands of years later.

And that is exactly what we hope to continue doing with A New Thing.

In future conversations, we’ll explore:

✨ Biblical stories through fresh eyes
✨ Spiritual truths found in music, movies, and books
✨ Ancient wisdom applied to modern challenges
✨ Faith, doubt, questioning, and wonder
✨ The common threads that appear across spiritual traditions
✨ The deeper meaning hidden inside stories we may have heard a hundred times

Whether you’re a devoted Christian, spiritually curious, questioning some of what you were taught, deconstructing your faith, or simply someone who loves searching for deeper meaning, you’re invited into the conversation.

There are no sides to choose here.

Just curiosity, conversation, and the possibility that something familiar may still have something new to teach us.
