Seeking – #100WordStories

He’d been seeking longer than he could remember, walking the long-forgotten trails of the forest and the city’s bustling thoroughfares, hunting an elusive monster. He’d forgotten what it meant to be warm and not-hungry, but determination drove him, relentlessly. Following the trail of calamity and death left in his quarry’s wake, he was always a day or two behind, but such a villain had to be stopped. He wouldn’t rest until his blade lay across the beast’s throat.

Time spiraled around him, drawing him onward, leading him backward, never once revealing its secret.

The devil he tracked was himself!
