Agreed. I was reminded just how resilient nature is this week when we visited Rocky Mountain National Park. There were 100s of acres still black from burning last year, yet each area was already green with renewal.

In Lord of the Rings, the trees are alive and can walk. They’re called Ents and they’re one of the unsung heroes of the saga. Stephen King, in his novella The Mist, says old trees are grumpy and want to hurt us — they’d kill us if they could.

I think both are very likely. Old trees have seen much and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that they hate us. They have many reasons to…sadly.
