Twisted

Arms once intertwined,

Now empty;

Eternal embrace,

Lost amid emerald shadows;

Soulmates of arboreal silence

Lost in shapeless time,

Twisted in forgotten rhyme.

Image taken by me at the Salem, Massachusetts cemetery. This tree was amazingly twisted, clearly having grown around and among another that had long since fallen.

  1. This very familiar. It’s gone now, but my wife and I had a couple of trees twisted up in our backyard for a good number of years. We called it our tree. Thanks for reminding me.
