The law of retalitation.

“You have heard it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’  But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer.  If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone want to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile.”
This is so hard.  Everything in me screams out to invoke every right and privilege that I think I’m entitled to and many more that I am not.  Whether it is a physical or verbal assault the instinct is to hit back.  If I get hit, my first reaction is to get mad, then cuss a little and then get even.  How am I supposed to minister to others if I struggle mightily with this?  I think it is better to be real about my own struggles.
This scripture is not about being a doormat or punching bag.  It is about overcoming the urge of the flesh to retaliate for any wrong inflicted on it, whether it be verbal or physical.  No one said it would be easy, but it is what we are called to do.

  2. It’s good to ponder this stuff….When I’m coming from a place of fear or hungry or tired I react with the same energy that was tossed in my direction. But when I’m watching the situation unfold from a place of love it’s easy to turn the cheek. Thanks for giving me a moment to ponder.

    1. I’m actually writing a blog to ponder the activity and my varied reactions of my soul/spirit. It helps me to make friends hopefully best friends with this part of myself.
