The Monster lurks beneath your bed,
Waiting to rear his Frightful head
To pander to your most prolific fears,
Stretching moments into Endless years.
Growling and hissing in the Infertile Hush,
While All your Thoughts Spiral in a torturous Rush,
The Monster Smiles with languid Guise,
Watching Triumphantly as from Sleeplessness you Rise.

This hand crafted image was provided to me by Rajiv Chopra found at: http://rajivchopra.me/ as a visual Challenge, to see what sort of poem I might come up with. As soon as I opened the picture file he sent, the first thought that came to mind was Insomnia…so I ran with it. Thank you Rajiv for the Inspiration. I enjoyed the mental exercise!

Insomnia is a terrible monster… holding us captive to its devious schemes. Very well-penned. 🙂

Fortunately I do not suffer from it very often, but when it rears its ugly head…its horrible.
Thanks Ever so for your visit 🙂

Thank you for your kind reblog. This is a subject many don’t talk about and the image really inspired thoughts of being wired from weariness and how your mind starts to spin uncontrollably.

Most welcome. I used to not discuss any kind of illness or condition, pride I suppose, or didn’t want to let Family worry. Now I realize how short sighted that was indeed. Aging makes it even more important for my Kids to know everything, nothing is too minute. They laugh sometimes at my new openness, but understand why better now. When you become a parent, life totally changes your perspective on life and health issues.
If by sharing, it helps one other person to realize they’re just different, not crazy, then hey, it’s worth all the sharing.))))))))

Age brings a lot into the right perspective, if you let it. Thankfully.)))))

Girl you nailed this! I know it well it’s been a bad friend to me. I’ve suffered from insomnia since 2007. I once went 10 days with only 1hr of sleep! By that time that monster was real! Great post!

You captured its essence! Darn insomnia! I would have liked a hopeful part of it that made it seem possible to get past it and get some sleep… But then, it would NOT be insomnia, with its “languid Guise!!” Great stuff!

Hi, found you through Rajiv’s reblog of your poem. brilliant leap from digital to real. Extremely well written piece. My favourite line: Stretching moments into Endless years… while not an insomniac, it really is the line that tells me the pain this monster brings with it. enjoyed the visit, thanks – to you and Rajiv http://rajivchopra.me/2014/05/28/insomnia/
