Stare

Shapeless as the Midnight Air
Is Your Brilliant, Fervent Stare;
Without Touching, You ever Take Me
Places from where I can’t Break Free.

Lingering Silent, Each Breath You Steal,
Filling me with Devouring Zeal;
Unbroken as the Starless Night,
Entrancing as a Fire’s Light.

Drinking in my Every Motion,
Your Stare as Deep as Any Ocean;
You Leave me Breathless and Gasping for More,
Seduced like Waves Upon the Shore.

  1. C S Lewis ends one of his Chronicle Books with Aslan and the Moon staring at each other with unblinking eyes, the mood of which you have captured here and the inspiration of a poem of my own by that name

    1. I really enjoy C S Lewis’s books, though I’ve never read them all or the one you mention, but it sounds like a beautiful image. Different influence for my poem, to be sure, but it relates well what a stare can do. 😉
