Welcome to the first ever #WriteFantasyFriday Fantasy writing prompt on BnV. 🙂

Using the photo prompt above, we will begin this (hopefully) fun writing exercise with a little world building.  Where is this amazing place?  What is it used for?  How did it come into being?  (just some thoughts – you don’t actually have to answer them.)  Your post should:

  • Include the tag #WriteFantasyFriday,
  • Use the title above
  • Be 500-750 words, (sorry, OUCH!)
  • Use this spectacular image as its inspiration.  Please also be SURE to credit the original artist, whose information is at the bottom of this post.

Create a post on your own blog…write whatever you choose, (Please see post specifications and additional instructions here)  and link back to the prompt post on BnV with a pingback .  If you are unsure of how to create a pingback, find an excellent tutorial here.

To ensure I see them, and also to invite readers to visit your blog, please copy and paste your posts link into the comments section of this post.

Each week, I will feature selected posts from the week on BnV.  Thank you for sharing your time and amazing talent with all of us. I hope you will Enjoy!

~Morgan~

.

Welcome to a new chapter in BnV history!  Im excited to kick off what I hope will be an exciting, challenging, and rewarding writing prompt series that will not only, perhaps, stretch your writing skills, but allow (fantasy) writers to find and enjoy each other’s writing/blogs.

Here’s what I’m thinking… (I will post the first writing prompt this coming Friday!)

Each Fantasy Friday, I will post a picture or series of pictures as a Fantasy Writing Prompt.  I will specify what the post should be about: a little world building; a conversation between characters; a conflict perhaps; I might inflict a word-limit; or a format, just a direction to get the imagination flowing.  Then, it’s up to YOU.

Use the image(s) provided as inspiration to create a post on your own blog…write whatever you choose, (Please see post specifications below)  and link back to the prompt post on BnV with a pingback .  If you are unsure of how to create a pingback, find an excellent tutorial here.

All Pingbacks from your blog need to be manually approved, so to ensure I see them, and also to invite readers to visit your blog, please copy and paste your Title and link into the comments section of the post.

Each week, I will feature selected posts on BnV by copying/pasting the first several lines of your post and a pingback to your blog.  Please be sure to use the #WriteFantasyFriday hashtag so we can all find each other.

Writing Prompts are a Fun-tastic way to share your skill and to find others with similar interests. Please be sure to visit, read and explore the sites of other writers.

Post Specifications:

  • BnV’s blog rating is PG-13.  Please abide.
  • No gratuitous violence or sex, please.
  • Posts glamorizing hatred, discrimination, or anything else of an extreme-negative nature will not be linked to BnV.
  • By creating a post on your blog that pings back to BnV under the #WriteFantasyFriday hashtag, you agree to allow me to feature your post on BnV by copying/pasting content from yours to mine.

Thank you for sharing your time and talent with BnV.  I’m excited to meet you, learn more about your writing, and build a community through Fantasy.

#Fantasy #WritingPrompt #Preview- Probing for Interest

For my fellow writers: Would you be interested in a writing prompt series that would showcase your writing?

I’ve had this thought turning for several weeks in my mind to run a writing- prompt series on my blog. This wouldn’t be the same ol’ same ol’ and would not be quite like other writing prompt posts. It would be a picture/ image with a specific prompt in mind…. something you have to write about concerning the picture. Ok ok that’s your basic prompt- produce prefabrication, but this is the variation.

I’d post a picture like above and ask writers to create a character in 1000 words or less. Or I’d post a landscape and want writers to do a little world building. Maybe I’d post two characters and see what fantastic dialog they might have or what sort of conflict they would get into.

Being a fantasy writer, and someone who loves to create, the notion appeals, but does it appeal to you?

I welcome you’re feedback, because if your game, it’s a go!

Passage time stands still

.

His senses spun; his heart hammered; he was irresistibly drawn to her. She no longer whispered, but he could hear her still; the beguiling sound of that which made her exquisitely her resounded within him.

Unconcerned about the watching star-beings, who no longer laughed, but shimmered their light as if smiling, he stepped forward and gazed down into her upturned face. Drinking in the soft blush of her cheek, the delicate smile turning her lips, and the lush glimmer in her eyes, he reached to touch her and, with that contact, his heart blazed with passionate yearning.

He Remembered Her.

.

The End.

Passage time stands still

.

Never had she seen another being like him. Blue eyes, pale skin, and yellow hair proclaimed he was far from his own realm and more astonishing than she ever could have imagined. Tall and strong, with odd cloth ornamentation covering his body and bizarre black embellishments in his skin, he was both handsome and bewildering.

He returned her shocked stare, the liquescent blue of his gaze skating away repeatedly, then returning. Lissome and beautiful, she stood bathed in translucent light he had not noticed from the distance; a star-being in humanesque form, yet entirely unclothed.

His aura shifted; she smiled.

aura

.

The intensity of his ire radiated outward through his aura, gleaming into the shadowlight. The scarlet glimmer muffled the insidious laughter assaulting him and many of the lights streaked back into the safety of the sky like stars falling in reverse. Others danced round his head like moths drawn to a flame and these he cursed at brazenly, though his unintelligible words only provoked choruses of additional laughter.

Glancing past the annoying entities, he scanned the horizon for the female who had ceased to sing and saw her lithe silhouette lingering amidst the shadows of barren rock.

His aura shifted.

passage

.

Looking round, he realized the stars had drawn closer, much closer. No longer shimmering in the distance, they hovered round him, pressing inward as the cacophony of laughter intensified. His ears rang with the tumult; his senses spun, but worse than the dizzying discordance was the scourge of anger that flared within him.

He didn’t like being laughed at, particularly by unseen phantoms lingering in the ethereal void into which he had plunged. Growling with ire, he pushed himself up from the parched ground and glared upward at the stars, which glared back, diverted by his blunder.

Breaths became blades…

Passage time stands still

.

Focused on the lissome silhouette in the distance, outlined against an ocean of night, his quickened pace mirrored his rushing pulse. She continued to whisper, her voice beguilingly close, as if she stood beside right him, speaking ever so softly in his ear and his thoughts spun.

Unable to concentrate upon the rocky terrain as her curves and slender limbs came more fully into view, he stumbled more than once, cursed at his clumsiness; then went sprawling into the dust.

An onslaught of vicious laughter ensued; echoing round him from nowhere and everywhere, and when it began, her whispers ceased.

Passage time stands still

.

Her voice filled his mind; a soliloquy of sound unlike anything he had ever heard. Temptation borne upon the breeze, her whispers spun his thoughts and made his heart hammer; in spite of the fact he could neither understand the language nor hear her intelligibly.

The barren terrain stretched out before him; an expanse as empty as his life had been, up until the moment he had chosen to step through the portal, anyway. The sky over head seemed the only thing to shift as he trudged across fields of pebbles and shale, but her voice drew him onward.

Then, in the distance, a shape appeared against the star-jeweled horizon.

Passage time stands still

.

Stepping into the shimmering darkness of the landscape, he cast about him seeking the speaker whose voice seemed to echo from the distance louder than it spoke from the nearby. Soft, subtle, a whisper drifting on the insubstantial breeze; her voice drew him like an intoxication he could not deny and serrated through him, as chilling as ice drawn across exposed skin.

The barren surroundings offered no evidence of her existence. Stretching outward toward a rose-hued horizon awash with stars, the rocky terrain undulated like a serpent, beguiling perception and tempting intrepidity. Her voice compelled him into the void.

He followed.

Passage time stands still

.

Time stood still, a product of perception; perhaps a fragment of the imagination only, which was neither tangible nor incorporeal. He stood looking into the figment, wonder expanding through his thoughts like a mirror replicating that which he saw, stretching, reaching into the unknown.

Where had he come? What place filled his gaze? A dark encapsulation of mystery sparkled in his eyes; innumerable points of light filling what once stood empty, alone; and that bejeweled cacophony of silence reflected in his liquescent gaze as a whisper just above the point of perception hinted he was not alone.

A feminine voice.

Passage

.

The well stood waiting, pristine, ready. A passage into the beyond; a portal primed and dedicated to its cause. The mystery of its magic drew him to its glistening side and enraptured his stare as musings tumbled in a myriad directions.

Where would this lost vestige of time transport him and what race of people would he encounter after crossing?

A doorway into the past; an entrance into realms unknown; the portal sparkled in the morning light’s splendor, awaiting his decision. Step into the precariously unfamiliar or remain amid the languid familiarity of his present reality.

Smiling, he stepped within.

.

#GuestBlogger – Lisa Lowell – One Writer’s Inspiration

One Writer’s Inspiration by Lisa Lowell

So often the first question, after people discover I’m a writer, is ‘Where do you get your ideas?’  I love this question because it allows me to stretch my muse beyond the limitations of an elevator pitch most people want when they ask ‘What’s your book about?’, a query I deplore.  So, where does the flow originate?

Perhaps I am an alien in this aspect, but my simple reply is The Universe.

Sometimes I’ve written scenes based on a pink elm leaf drifting in a rain puddle, a few repetitive notes on a piano, a long drive home at night in the rain and even a rediscovered screwdriver tangled up in the spaghetti of wiring behind my computer desk.  One song, Lindsey Sterling’s Crystalize, practically drove a relationship between two characters in my book Heart Stone.   Those few flashes of experience fit into some orphan scene on which I am meditating at the time, and the magic is done.

Then there are the characters.  I never base my characters on individuals I’ve met or know.  It’s unusual in the writing community perhaps, but I cannot even give you a specific person who has inspired any of them.  The characters are an amalgam of me, how I want to be or at the least how I perceive myself.  Owailion is the practicality and ruthless pragmatism I can’t seem to break in myself.  Somewhere inside I harbor Raimi’s pitiful self-esteem, thinking she will ruin everything she touches, and I have the withered computers and cell phones to witness that.  Vamilion’s wretched patience is what keeps me going to face rooms full of thirteen-year-olds every day and tending a Parkinson’s patient every night.  Perhaps I just wish I had Honiea’s gifts.  All my characters are, unfortunately, uniquely, a slice of me.

But how do you get your ideas, they wail.  Simply put, from God.  I know my writing is a gift and I do not use it I will be held accountable.  So, I write.  The ideas come in dreams, in twists in my own life, or in curious, ‘I wonder what would happen if…’ moments.  I just recently finished a sci-fi/dystopian novel sparked by a friend living in Denver.  She came here to Oregon a few years ago and never got to the ocean.  I wrote a book to take the ocean to her.  Poof, an entire book where the world is flooded and Denver is a coastal city.  The Wise Ones series started as a drawing by Andre’ Norton in her Gryphon books.  I drew the castle in the illustration and then wondered who would live in such a masonry confection.  I found her in Tiamat, the Sea Queen.  When I wrote that story of how a mousy little girl could become a queen worthy of that scenery, through her trials, I had the makings of an entire nine-book series.

It was serendipity at its best.  So, you see, I could never squeeze the universe into an elevator pitch.  Thank you for listening to a slightly longer version.

Bio – Lisa Lowell has been writing for most of her life, focusing mostly on historical fiction, fantasy and science fiction, anywhere anything is possible.  She has three children and lives with her husband Pat in Oregon.  She teaches middle-school English because she has a masochistic streak that led her into being an author in the summer.

Hello fellow writers 🙂

I am looking for a few Guest Bloggers for my blog for the next few weeks as I undertake moving, learning a new job, and settling into a new life 🙂
First and most importantly to me is that Booknvolume is a PG-13 Blog, so any posts, poems, photographs, etc., must pass that guideline, Please.  You are free to choose whatever topic you find appealing and you may share anything from poetry to flash fiction, short stories, artwork, photography, recipes, Inspirational Quotes, Spirituality, Book Reviews, Author Interviews, Character Sketches….in other words, I’m not going to restrict you as long as you follow the PG-13 Golden Rule.  🙂

Secondly, You will write the post, provide any links, photos w/ appropriate credit, your brief bio and author page, and I will schedule it for sometime within the next 2-3 weeks. I will give you the link for the post once it’s scheduled, which you will be able to access and share when it goes ‘live’.

Thank you in advance for your support and assistance during this marvelous change in my life 🙂 ❤

And Thank You  for your interest in adding YOUR Voice to Booknvolume.   I look forward to sharing your talent with my readers and Very Much Appreciate your willingness to Help a fellow writer in need.

She speaks in Subtle Whispers

And

He shouts in Thunderous Tones

Echoes of Memory

Scattered like Stones

Falling from Leaden Skies

Through Dappled leaves of Delicate Sighs

Tragedy Secretly Unfolds

Through Emeraldine Kisses and Tempestuous Golds

Spirit of Majesty

Reaching to Infuse

Recollections of Being to Beguile and Confuse.

I recently used this image in Wordless Wednesday, but the Solitary Spirit kept whispering to me and whispered to others as well, So I felt Inspired to Share a Prompt.

What does this Beautiful Spirit Say to you?  Does She Whisper or Is His Voice commanding?  If you feel led, Please write your post and link back to this.  I will add your verse to the post and link to yours.

Thank You for Sharing the Magic and Mystery of Inspiration 🙂
