Halls stained with silent shadows and serrating whispers bled into the dimness of the icy ether as the glimmer of light from beyond cracked glass panes struggled to permeate the chill. Amid the perturbed hush, a suspiration of frosty air snaked its away along the columns and cold, gray stone; reaching for what lay beyond its grasp; hoping for one last connection with what was long since lost.

Shadows writhed against the blackness as the echoes of the unremembered cried into the silence. Staring into the flames, we were transfixed; bound through the enigma of what we thought was enrapturing. Little did we know our souls stood still, listening to those we chose to neither see nor acknowledge.

Entombed

In Tune with all that turns and spirals,
Songs detracting from the depths Unknown,
Haunting lute Enchanting the feral,
Moving the Earth under grass New Grown.

Tides that Shift the murky Twilight
In pitch and marrow, shuddering the Core,
Tarot Speaks when Belief Kisses night,
Tripping down the tumbling steps of Yore.

Careful, Ye who Fancy adventure,
Marvel long and Entrenched Ye Shall Be,
Entombed in mossy banks, Premature,
Locked and Staring outward Eternally.

She stood beyond the borders of periphery; a figment of possibility whispering on the shifting tides. Immersed in shadows, she was less than ethereal; an unremembered thought, waiting. Existing in the place between reality and the beyond, she was less than a sigh; more transitory than the fleeting light of evening. No sound escaped her as she gazed with solemnity at the darkness leaking into the void she occupied. Its inexorable progression mirrored the panic welling within while a scream more horrific than that ebon nothingness pierced her unmoving chest.

Light was gone. All that remained was darkness.

And Silence.

Slithers – #Dark #Halloween #FlashFiction

Shadows slithered along the deserted alleyway like writhing serpents. I stepped carefully, watching the darkened corners with the penetrating gaze of a terrified animal. Somewhere in the midst of the gloom, the one I sought had hidden himself and coming upon him unawares was perilous in the extreme. Dark tides of time washed across my path, marooning me in a vast ocean of treacherously flickering streetlights. Echoes of the night reverberated down the damp walls lining the backstreet, their shudders mirroring my own as I crept forward with deliberate stealth. A few additional paces and I’d be free, released from the harrowing confinement like a dove set to soar and my heartbeat quickened in anticipation.

It was not to be.

In that brief moment, everything turned upside down. Panic pushed the bounds of my mental and physical limits. Unparalleled terror pitched me into a frenzy of flailing limbs and earsplitting shrieks that scathed through the night like a reprise of the days of Jack the Ripper. I was the embodiment of horror, held captive by the icy grip of fear.

In the chaos, the tarantula crept from beneath a shadow leaching across my path, looked up at me and laughed.

I’ve left it late.  Typically, I share all sorts of delightfully ghoulish goodies throughout the entire month of October, but this year …well, this year is 2020 and I’ll leave it right there.

So in penance, I will be sharing Halloween for the next 24 hours.  If you don’t like the ghostly gibbers or sneaking sensations, run now! 🙂

If you do enjoy them, then get ready for BnV-tober! LOL Because for the next entire day, I am about to flood the airways with Freakish Flash Fiction, Ponderous Poetry, Spine-tingling short stories, and..well, you get the idea 😉

and of course….Happy Halloween!

Those We Do Not Speak Of – Lingering – #Spirituality and #HauntedPlaces

Lingering

(Let me begin by saying Sorry, this is rather lengthy….my apologies)

Over the past few days we’ve taken a closer look at Ghosts, Spirits, Specters, Apparitions, the Afterlife, Communication and the notion of The Essence and where it goes.

Charles Dickens had an interesting notion. As Jacob Marley so eloquently put it: “It is required of every man that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellow men and travel far and wide and If that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death! It is doomed to wander through the world! Oh, woe is me! And witness what it cannot share but MIGHT HAVE SHARED on Earth and turned to happiness!” Possible…yes. Continue reading →

Those We Do Not Speak Of – Shadows -#Spirituality and #HauntedPlaces

Shadows

.

There are many places in this world that have a reputation for being haunted or evil. Native Americans, as well as other ancient cultures throughout the world, name many places as cursed or avoid them because they understand how dangerous they are, but why? Is it perhaps because these places are inhabited by Negative Energy; by demons for lack of a better name? If we Believe there is Positive Perfected Energy, then the opposite must also be true, but what happens to these places infested by shadows and what happens to us when we choose to live there?

Shades of Gray

.

Where does the Essence go once it departs our physical body? Does it consciously decide whether to go towards the Light or remain in the earthly plane? Are we in control of what happens to our Essence or does energy return to Energy, from which it sprung? Continue reading →
