Discovering the Resonance Within: Reflections on my Energy Awareness Journey

Recently, I began a training course on energy awareness and healing, offered by world-renown and powerful energy healer. It’s something I’ve been curious about for a long time, though I never imagined that just the introduction would lead me somewhere unexpected: not outward into new abilities, but inward toward a deeper understanding of myself.

The course has nearly fifty lessons, and I thought I would be learning techniques right away. Instead, the very first step is something much simpler and far more revealing: self-awareness.

And as it turns out, that alone has already begun to change the way I understand my own experiences.

Going Back in Time

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a strong sense of being able to “read” people. Not in a super hero way of knowing their secrets, but in a quiet recognition that something about their presentation isn’t genuine. Sometimes a person’s words, tone, and energy just don’t feel genuine, and I notice the mismatch almost immediately. For years I dismissed this awareness. I assumed I was overthinking things or imagining patterns that weren’t really there. But over time I began to notice something interesting: more often than not, my initial impression eventually proved accurate.  OR the person actually told me later, “it’s like you see right through me.”

Another experience I’ve had throughout my life happens during meaningful conversations, particularly when discussing spiritual ideas or sharing something deeply true to me. In those moments, I feel a strange sensation begin in my chest, almost like a vibration or an energetic shiver that spreads outward through my body. It’s often accompanied with a feeling of shivering, even though I’m far from cold, and sometimes my teeth even chatter!

Along with this strange feeling comes a sudden clarity of thought. Ideas begin to form more quickly in my mind and words flow more easily, (I know, like I have a problem with words flowing? LOL)  Sometimes I find myself understanding something while I’m speaking about it, not before. It’s as though the insight reveals itself in real time. Until recently, I never really knew what to make of this, although I understood it to be a good thing.

Of Resonance and Attunement

While discussing these things with a friend, I learned that this kind of experience is often referred to as somatic resonance. The term simply means that the body responds physically when something feels deeply meaningful or aligned with our values. The body notices significance before the mind fully explains it.

When something resonates with us—an idea, a truth, a moment of connection—the nervous system can react with sensations like warmth, chills, or a feeling of energy spreading through the chest and outward into the body. Many people experience this when listening to powerful music or witnessing something inspiring, but for me, it often appears during heartfelt conversations or when exploring ideas about spirituality, growth, and purpose.

What fascinates me most is that the sensation seems to guide the thinking process. I often begin with only a vague sense of what I want to say, but as the conversation unfolds, what I’m trying to express becomes clearer, and many times entirely new insights appear along the way. It feels less like retrieving a thought and more like discovering one.

The realization that this pattern has been part of my life for years is both surprising and strangely comforting. It suggests to me that our minds and bodies work together in ways we aren’t taught about as children and in ways we don’t always notice. Perhaps many of us have signals like this—subtle cues that point toward meaning, truth, or emotional authenticity—but we’ve learned to ignore them.

A Journey toward Sharing

I’m approaching this experience with curiosity rather than trying to form conclusions. I don’t know yet where the rest of this training course will lead, but if the first lesson is any indication, the real journey may be one of learning to trust the awareness we all have of ourselves. So, I’ve decided to share this process openly as it unfolds.

As I move through these lessons, I’ll be writing about what I learn, what surprises me, and what questions arise along the way. If you’ve ever felt something similar—a moment when your body seemed to recognize truth before your mind fully understood it—I’d love to hear about it.

Sometimes the most fascinating discoveries aren’t about gaining new abilities. They’re about finally noticing the ones we’ve carried with us all along.
