Old.
Forgotten.
Forsaken.
Dilapidated.
Run Down. Decrepit.
Ancient. Primeval. Deserted. Abandoned.
All of these terms can be applied to any number of structures, once glorious, once tended with affection, once prominent; now standing in silent decay and ruin.
Yet within the hush that has settled over these edifices of antiquity, whispers linger, shadows flicker, and stories wait on the precipice of perception.
These crumbling bastions betray no secrets; still, they entice the imagination and persuade even the most resolute skeptic. Ever worthy of the onlooker’s gaze, even in their final resting peace, they beg to be reexamined and shared.
Mirabilis is a Latin adjective meaning “amazing, wondrous, remarkable”.

The photos you used in this post are magnificent. The churches must have been grand at one time. It is so sad that they were left forgotten and neglected, but their beauty triumphs.

I have a friend, photographer, she loves to find these abandoned places and create a myth in them through her photography. In her own words; I believe every abandoned place is a lost soul waiting for me to awaken it and bring it to life… And does she does do that! The photos and your words reminded me of this.

Well said, I think for people with imaginations these buildings are magnificent edifices (edifi?) to mystery, antiquity and wonder. Coming across one that I have not previously explored before is always a source of great excitement.
